I suppose this works if you are trying to defy physics and straightline acceleration is your main goal. I'm looking forward to the XM type reviews.

Slow in what metric? Maybe they will map the electric drive for 0-60. I see that being the marketing number. Quicker to 60mph by a couple of tenths maybe. Keep in mind C&D tested the F90 LCI at 2.8sec 0-60, 10.9 sec 1/4 and weighed in at 4,237lbs. How is the G90 going to hide 1,131 lbs on a track? Braking and cornering is going to suffer, physics don't lie. G90 technically has worse power-to-weight ratio, so it won't make up time on the straights.

Ah, wait, yes, with every new generation release! This one is a “fat pig” but BMW still manages to make it faster and better This one is the size of a 7….well, so was the previous one compared to outgoing 7er This one has ugly giant grilles…and still, 4 years later cannot find one on the lot or under the MSRP and sales have increased vs previous Gen… |

We need to compare apples to apples. What we need now is a CS version where they drop the electric motor completely, replace the entire frame with a CF one and bump the s68 up 100 hp. Nbd!

Um, I’ll believe that when I see it. 285/295 is only 10mm wider than the M3, but a massive increase in weight. This M5 is going to DESTROY tires and won’t grip as well. What a tragedy.

I was already regarding my F90 as a keeper, and these newly released stats only reinforce that for me. There is no way this new gen M5 is going to feel nimble on UK roads, especially on those back roads that are sufficiently twisty (and secluded from our creeping surveillance culture) to warrant and reward a truly spirited drive. The M-division peaked with the F90, period: one doesn't have to be a stubborn Luddite to recognise that; now we're entering a truly different era of compromises, in which it is suddenly all but self-evident that it'll be harder than ever simply to remain a disciple of the brand and accept that newer automatically equals better. They'll no doubt sell. But the benefits of owning this over a F90 are hardly compelling. Ah well, at least its overblinged illuminated grille silhouette (presumably the M will be festooned with one of those too?) will help it to stand out in the dark...

Every one of us miserable fuks will have this car next year at this time…posting pictures on the inevitable “show me your M5 thread”!
This entire reaction is so predictable.

At least they are keeping the V8. While hybrids are heavier by nature, 1000+ lbs heavier?
Benz have given about every excuse in the book to their own fans on why they don't put their glorious V8 in more cars like before.

Why does virtually every car manufacturer think the best performance car has to have gobs of power. Why not leave the current engine alone, and spend all that money in R&D on a lighter chassis. When you add all that power, you have to add AWD, and of course, safety standards these days already make cars heavy. Just putting bigger tires and ceramic brakes isn't enough to actually tame the weight. This happening to M cars is disheartening, IMO. And electrifying and hybriding is not good for proper sportscars/sedans either; not for M cars it isn't. Did I mention disheartening!?

BMW is trying every effort to recalibrate the ICE weight to match EV so that there won't be bias against EV weight! Pretty soon all the guardrails need a redesign!
Why not just offer lighter pure ICE M5? |

God damn what a pig. Heavier than a Grand Cherokee SRT. They say cars from the 60s are heavy. Ha!

With that weight: going to chew up tires in no time, drivetrain wear going to be massive, wouldn't want to buy one used.

they are not being green by adding all this weight
they could have removed some 300-400 pounds from the F90 by shrinking it and add more CF most people would have been happy and the environment better off |
