Find someone local in the industry. Sit in front of a camera and whack off for however long, and then you get some money. Sometimes you'll get offered this or that. Just have to have a good looking dick.
.... seriously. |

It takes 5 years to become a Sandwich Engineer. Sadly I don't have enough mustard as yet.
Exactly.

These threads always lead to fun answers. I don't know why people are so afraid of writing down their profession - I work in IT, I do storage. And as I get older, I like it less. Anyone know a good industry to transition out of IT and in to?!!
I especially don't understand the business owners not wanting to talk about their businesses. Is this not an opportunity to network or maybe get a new customer or two? Or does it just lead to people trolling you? |

There are actually plenty of interesting books that touch on this idea. The upshot is that people generally feel most comfortable talking to people of similar socioeconomic status and occupational prestige. |

Makes sense having everyone be on the level on a message board. I hadn't seen it that way.

Maybe it's just in my circles, but I know a few people who are not active on linkedin and are potentially missing out on making contacts.
But after having some conversations, I think I can understand a few reasons for not answering. I do like knowing industries that people are in, just because every so often I learn that a (new to me) certain industry exists! |

It's also the way that the question is asked. The simple truth is that most often people troll with these kinds of questions.
When people make a thread genuinely asking for career move advice or a young kid wants to know what he can do to afford his dream car one day, they get real answers. This thread is beat to death on many forums especially luxury and exotic cars. OP said something about how many of the new M3/M4 owners look young so the way he put it was suggestive of trolling. Did your parents buy you the M4? Etc. The simple truth is, it doesn't matter what you do; and having a certain car tells really nothing about a person's financial prowess to be able to obtain said car. There are so many paths in career, business, investing, etc., that the very hypothesis of "M4 owners must be X to afford an M4" is flawed. Thus it is the wrong question being asked in the wrong way. Just my opinion. And, if OT wasn't always OT it wouldn't be as much fun to hand around here! Want to buy some oranges? 25% off until 5pm!!!! |
