Its finally time to start in on the performance modifications on this build! The Supra has an iconic sound that I was anxious to unleash with an exhaust upgrade! In true C2K form I decided to put the exhaust choice up to vote on the instagram page. The options were the HKS Super Dragger, HKS Carbon Ti, and the ETS 4” Titanium.

It was a heated debate and hundreds of votes later, the HKS Carbon Ti was the winner with the ETS 4” as a close second. All great options, so I went ahead and picked up the exhaust off an eBay dealer.

This was seriously the easiest Exhaust install in my car modding history. Two hangers that easily slipped off, two doughnut hangers and two bolts is all it took! I had set aside a few hours on my Saturday, got all my favorite car modding cloths on, set up the tunes in the garage; I was ready for the struggle and 25 minutes in I was done!

The exhaust was not only very high quality and easy to install but it sounds great and looks even better! Its quite compared to other Supras but that’s mainly because of the stock downpipe/cat which I’m sure will free up once I replace it as part of a single upgrade.

The one thing that I didn’t like about my Supra was that it is a stock Turbo Auto tranny. While I got a much better deal on it because it was AT and I had read a lot of positive things about the auto tranny being able to hold big power and put down great times on the track, it still felt lethargic on shifts and the opposite of joyful while driving around town.

I knew that a 6MT swap would be a big investment; the V160 itself is going for insane amounts even with bad gears or high miles. Adding the 6MT differential made the parts cost even more astronomical. So I started looking at other options, the stock 5spd just seemed like a cheap substitute and I didn’t like the thought of a Nissan tranny powering me around. I liked the idea of a Lexus or BMW DCT swap but the electronic tuning required scared me away.

Then I came across Grannas Racing. Joel has done an incredible job of sourcing and designing a true turn-key 6MT swap kit that is complete with every nut and bolt required.

He has made a series of install videos on youtube that walk you through the process step-by-step and once you finish watching you realize that he has literally thought of everything! The kit even comes with a electronic unit the fine tune your speedometer, a stock look (baseball) shifter that has the R in the up position, and a 3D printed adaptor for the OEM shift boot to fit on the aftermarket shifter and knob.

The Tremec T-56 Magnum is the transmission he works with, it’s a monster and best yet, its new production with readily available repair parts. It works with the stock auto differential and is easy to use for street driving.

I chose the OS Giken twin disc clutch to go with the kit since it was the best mix of drivability and suitability for my power goals.

I bought the entire kit minus the tranny for now (since its such a big investment) I’ll hopefully have enough saved up to get the tranny and finally complete my dream of having a 6MT Supra!

The parts are stacking up! I have decided to save all the motor and tranny upgrades for one big engine-out install!

Since my valve seals are bad I decided to replace cams and springs while we disassembled the head, I chose Brian Crower Ti Springs/retainers and their 264 cams.

The Brembo Brakes came in as well, as you can see I went with Type 3 rotors and GT front and rear in Ferrari yellow!

Lastley I picked up the Extreme Turbo Systems 4” FMIC kit in anodized black with black piping.

Only top-quality parts for this build, feels good so far!

A lot of people have heard of Paint protection Film or PPF in the capacity of a clear front bumper or front clip appliqué that protects the front end from rock chips and scratches. Some people like the protection so much that they decide to apply the PPF to the entire car!

XPEL is one of the best known and reputable producers of this film with industry leading self healing technology and a network of certified dealers for install. Recently they began offering a matte finish PPF called ‘Stealth’ that gives the full body PPF cars a matte or frozen clear finish.

Not just anyone can apply this film successfully, that is why XPEL only is sold from certified dealers who meet strict skill and professionalism standards. Luckily one of the best installers of the XPEL dealer network is located near me in Rockville MD, Brett at All American Paint Protection!

I decided to fully protect this old Supra’s paint and get a full body Stealth PPF. This was an entirely custom job as the Supra is not a high enough volume model to have pre-cut templates so Brett’s craftsmanship really shows in the finish product!

The car was pretty cherry before this upgrade but now she is absolutely stunning!

For the motor I decided to consult the name synonymous with champion Supras for as long as I can remember…Titan Motorsports. I can recall surfing their website for parts as I was fantasy spec’ing my future supra all the way back in 2004. Gabe at Titan helped guide my build list based upon my goal of 600 reliable WHP with emphasis on fast spool and room for expansion in the future.

My first procurement was a precision 6466 Gen 2 DBB Twin Scroll turbo mounted to a beautiful Virtual Works Racing twin TiAL wastegate manifold complete with Titan 4” downpipe and midpipe combo and wastegate dump tubes.

Extreme Turbo Systems was my choice for a great bolt-on intercooler kit with cool customization options. I ordered it with a black anodized core and black wrinkle coated piping with a classic HKS SSQV BOV

I chose a custom CSF radiator which I also had coated black to match the engine bay theme. It will offer much better cooling for the hot/humid days of stop-go on the beltway.

To prevent valve float and to reach a little higher RPM power band I picked up some Brian Crower Titanium valve springs and retainers as well as 272 Stage 3 cams with iconic BC gold cam gears.

Freed Engineering is doing the install of all these parts and are also providing their custom modified OEM street port intake manifold that increases plenum volume by about 30% and makes the interior of the plenum much smoother. They also spec’d out a fuel system for me with their custom dual fuel pump hanger that is holding one walbro and a new fuel rail with ID 1050s. I’m also having them heat wrap the downpipe and put on a turbo blanket.

I sent my main engine harness to Wiring Specialties to completely revamp and integrate the various sensors and aftermarket fuel system plugs and set up AEM traction control functionality.

I had to get rid of the auto lights on the stock cluster so I sent my cluster and HVAC over to Stu Hagen for the full service and now have a sick TRD 10K tach and LED HVAC upgrade!

Lastly, to pull it all together I found a really talented local painter in Baltimore, Matt Pratt, who modified the stock valve cover to show off the BC cams as well as wrinkle coating the valve runners and I just dropped the intake manifold/runners, compressor housing, and water neck off to him for further black painting for a nice uniform stealth engine bay.

I’ll post more pics and write-ups of the individual parts as they go on and I get a chance to drive with them but here are a few teasers for now!

Been a long few weeks but things are finally moving again, the Custom harness is being shipped back from wiring specialties to Freed Engineering and all the parts are painted and ready for re-install! Should be reassembling in the next week!

Dont dig the wrap job, makes the car look like a work in progress. im sure you will get sick of it and peel it off eventually, nothing beats a freshly detailed black car.
