This car will be nearly impossible to obtain, and that's before shady dealers and their potential markup! It was fun while it lasted...

This is a quote from over on the Audi forums. The Audi dealer I've been talking to also mentioned "built in small batches" despite being told it isn't limited production:
I spoke to Danielle Weissland, the new head of Audi of America, at the Audi club national event last month. He stated it will be 500 cars a year and they already have over two years worth of orders, but he acknowledged it is possible that there are people with multiple orders via several dealers.

I love this but the price, ouch. I've always wanted one of these and it looks even better than past models. It might be better to compromise in this case and get an RS5 Sportback.

However, bring the RS4 Avant and my wife's next car will be on order.
This. I would love to own one of these. My wife loves my F31 for the practical uses and because it drives like a car. She hates SUVs with a passion thankfully.

Throw a roof box on, snow tires and load up the snowboards and carve up the roads up the mountains. I am the weirdo who owns snow tires in San Diego! I looked very hard at getter her a V60 Polestar a couple years ago and she was all for it but it was impossible to get one. But the pricing on the Avant is double if not tripple what I would spend on a car! I have been lusting after an E63 AMG for ages but same issue.

If BMW had brought over the 335 or 340 F31 I would have been first in line.

I had one of the first 2015.5 V60 Polestar's here 62/80, but it ended up being too small for our needs

Yep cause greed takes precedent in this country. We are in the wrong business.

Looked long and hard at that, but they were saying it didn't even stack up to a 335 at the time as far as performance, so it didn't seem like a good buy. I think they are moving a bit more in the right direction now.

Not sure who was saying that...I actually described it exactly like a 335is touring, if ever one should exist. Others described/compared it even higher up the food chain More pics of my car post #35

Too rich for my blood. To expensive to drive daily, but not sporty enough for this kind of money. And it probably has an engine in front of the axles, which is probably masked by all the electronics up to a point after which you'll realize it has a boat anchor in front.
So I think this car is a compromise, and not necessarily a good one. You probably end up with a practicality of an expensive sport car which you can't take anywhere without being paranoid about door ding etc and sportiness of a wagon with an engine in front of the axles. The ultimate understeer machine, lol

These cars ARE more about the straight line, there's no doubt, but yes, the AMG E63 is probably a better buy still, for handling and AFAIK, it's still significantly cheaper.

Love the car. Hate the price. Audi's RS models are just too expensive for performance that is usually exceeded by lower priced competition.

Yep, that’s my point, too. Can you really drive your dogs around in a 100k+ wagon? Don’t think so, so practicality goes out of the window.

This would make an excellent ski/mtn bike/hiking/anything-to-the-trailhead-car, as long as it's not serious off-road. The cargo space will swallow giant stuff with ease.

I'd just get a golf altrac instead or sportwagen 4motion for all these things you mentioned, swapped in a turbo from some gti and be done with it. Sportwagen 4motion was available with 6mt as well. Too bad altrac and sportwagen got discontinued, wonder why. I actually own one, but it's older (2009), fwd and auto. It only needs a 6mt and 4motion to totally rock.

Cool car, but not for me. I love wagons, especially the German ones, but the prices are way too high for me. When we're talking about 6 figure cars, I'd rather have 2 or 3 cars for that price. Granted, I have the luxury of having room to keep all those cars.

For me personally, I'd much rather have something like a used 981 Boxster Spyder and some kind of practical DD rather than getting a very fast wagon that is not great at anything. I know I'm comparing apples vs oranges.

Still though, respect to Audi for making such a great looking car.
