If you know nothing about espresso machines just make sure you get a pump machine. You can't get a good espresso with the crema (head) without a pump. You can spend a couple hundred to thousands - just research a bit.

OP If you have a budget in mind it will help greatly. As with many things the price range can be crazy. I wouldn't rule out a used machine (send for refurb if needed). Can get expensive machines for great prices just cause a gasket is leaking and owner replaces it. Don't forget with a good espresso machine you WILL need a good grinder. They can run hundreds to thousands as well. Budget is everything going into this. |

Breville oracle touch. It’s a good halfway point from traditional labour intensive and full automatic. Watch YouTube videos on it. It works great for my latte’s and my americanos. My Kids also do steamed vanilla milk and steamed milk for hot chocolate in winter. I have it set to auto turn on in the morning so she’s warmed up for me when I finish showering. Every second counts in the morning.

Also I’ve been brewing 6 double shots a day through it for maybe 3 years or so (when it was first released). No issues at all, but I do follow the scheduled maintenance (it tracks it all and tells you when to do it).

Why would you buy an Australian espresso machine? Gaggia Classic or Rancilio Silvia would be my vote. Whole Latte Love has each bundled with decent grinders, some backflush solution and descaler for a pretty nice savings.

My Italian espresso-addicted neighbors got the $500 De'Longhi model from Costco three months ago and rave about it. They had expected to dislike the machine and return it, but they're very happy with (1) its performance, (2) good price point, and (3) liberal return policy if there's any issue.
Note: Some Costco reviewers complained that the grinder has clogging/auto-feeding problems with oily beans, but my neighbors who use correct espresso beans have had no such problem.
