What a big bloated mess. RS6 is such a better buy than this thing. BMW is, unfortunately, following the lead of the American population.

For European BMW owners, pitching the M5 as the only wagon model available in the US looks pretty weird. Over here, it’s only really a ‘halo’ model to advertise the variant, when in reality the bulk of wagons are 3 Series and of those, mainly 328i, 340i and 330d. I had a 320i Touring, 525tds Touring then a 528i Touring and ended up with a 330d xDrive Touring, given the latter is about the same size as my first 5 Series of previous generations. The 5 carries a lot of extra weight over the 3 Touring for not a lot more internal space and most of the more recent Tourings on the road here are 3s.

Subjectively, it seems that here this sector’s buyers choice is between the 3 Touring and the X3/iX3, with buyers wanting a mid-size, comfortable 4-seater with a big luggage space in the back. The respective vehicles’ dimensions fit reasonably comfortably into small UK parking spaces, whereas the 5 Touring or X5 would leave little room to even open the door in many car parks.

No doubt the usual bigots will use the meaningless circular argument that the reason BMW don’t import 3 Series Tourings to the US is because they’re rubbish, or similar jibe, but of course that’s flawed logic. You’ve never been offered the choice - so you can’t know what would and wouldn’t sell.

No thanks. BMW didn’t bring the M3 wagon to USA for a reason. They suck. No one wants one. The M5 wagon will flop and be discontinued after a year.

That isn’t why the M3 wagon didn’t come to the US. Lol
Pretty sure they would have needed to relocate the battery in the wagon to pass safety standards.

But thank you for your insightful input.

X5 sales were down for 2023 YoY compared to 2022.

Nope, BMW NA will just throw truck cash to move units like the XM or skip a model year like the M8 coupe/cabrio until units cleared off dealership lots.

Exactly why BMW M designed the XM for the US market which has been a smash hit that it’s over a year wait for an allocation (sarcasm).

Nobody wants a wagon, or manual cars. So they don’t bring those cars to market.

We need to speak with our wallets. And when we do, cars come. We have a handful of them… unfortunately not enough of us wanting a manual wagon.
Sorry, didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. I stand corrected, manual wagons suck!

Lots of differing opinions here, all fair and valid. I do like wagons, had a awesome a6 allroad. Why do I like wagons, lighter, better driving dynamics, better driving position, and comparable space to a SUV. Now when the wagon has less power, more weight, a crazy premium, and less space than my current 3 row SUV it understandbly makes me ask why?

For me a m3 wagon would have been a no brainer, this I'm not so sold on, and passed on leaving a down payment. Maybe I'll eat my words, that would be awesome. But a car I always thought I'd instantly jump at, I'll wait and see a few other new things coming to market, including hopefully the rs5 avant. Glad they made it, but sad around some of the decisions.

I have to ask what 3 row SUV you have that has more than 738hp (that is the hp rating for the set up in the XM Label, which is in the new M5).

Sorry guys, but people in the states don't really want this.
I grew up in Buick station wagons and I wouldn't gravitate towards this.
I see poor sales here.

Did you put down a deposit for G99? And speak with your wallet? Goes back to my 1st page post. Manuals are history unfortunately, even in Europe, as the manufacturers are pushing EV’s down our throats. We need to bond together for ICE to continue, and refuse to embrace the EMusk EV disaster.

I'm voting and voted with my wallet. Own a F31 and #3 on the list at the dealer for G99. I was #1 (verbally) but apparently I got bumped down by two others who buy multiple cars a year. I guess I can't compete with that big of a wallet.

When I look at Porsche’s worldwide wagon sales I wonder if anyone really wants to own a wagon. The sales performance is downright terrible. Wagons just don’t seem to sell well at all. No wonder Porsche had to drastically cut back on the wagon models they offer.
