I'm laughing at some commenters saying 700+bhp and sub 3.5 0-60 times are not acceptable. When I first got into cars, if you had 200bhp and/or had a sub six-second 0-60 time you were king of the parking lot. I don't know guys, this M5 looks the part to me. Yes it's heavy, the days of lightweight BMWs are long gone; an M2 is knocking at the door of 4000 pounds. This car looks like the wolf in sheep's clothing executive 'saloon' M5 that I'd expect from BMW, it's not supposed to be a laser focused track toy.

The issue is that you bought a M5 rather than several other options because its lighter and better to drive than those options. The F90 kept that true although the E63 S ran it very very close.

Now will that be true in a car as heavy as the competition and with such underwhelming numbers?

This car is as heavy as the S63 AMG Hybrid, heavier than the Panamera Turbo S EHybrid, heavier than the new PHEV Continental.

Its disappointing for sure.

the remove before race guy drove it and was talking about how flat it was taking the corners and how overall stiff it was, 1st drive feedback seems really positive.

Just popping out to the driveway to snatch a consoling glance at my F90 Comp--ah, what blessed relief...

I remember the days when an M5 launch was a big event. Yawn, another oversized insulated super sedan. Cool car but too big and fast to enjoy on any reasonable road.

This guys will never say a bad thing about the cars.

Nonetheless they said about the braking (one of the reviewers), and its noticeable its a lot worse than the M4 CS (due to the stupid weight).

How long before we get some legit reviews with some track time by these same reviewers?

Don’t think anyone here said it’s slow. Just highly probable that’s slower than the outgoing one. That’s all. Back than when 200hp car was considered quick BMW was not knocking at the $150K price point. I honestly wonder how will that be advertised. As sport sedan? Just because marketers call things certain way doesn’t automatically mean it’s that. If so there’s Toyota Sienna in sport trim. Now what does it have to do with sport ? I’ll leave it at that. All things aside. I think we can all agree that this would’ve been so much better vehicle at let’s say 2000kg. Wouldn’t it ? I tend to be the guy that’s happy with what I have instead of unhappy with what I don’t. This could be such great vehicle. If it would be called M7. As M5 it sucks. Everyone has to see it for itself. Those YouTubers will praise the car because that’s what they’re making their money on. Just like in German magazines usually German cars were winning comparison tests. My bet is on that it’ll be more comfy than F90.

I think the car is going to be a win. Just because it MAY not have a published to 0-60 mhp less than the F90 is not significant to me. Can you really tell the difference between 3.3 and 3.5?

It may be able to go around the racetrack faster with the rear wheel steering, extra horsepower and other engineering enhancements.

Did anyone see that cool video with the Connor MacGregor look-a-like?

50k € more then m3/m4, but same 0-100 (or even worse, same on paper ). Will drive way worse in turns, nightmare to park.

No carbon fibre on the steering wheel. M3/m4 - carbon.
Plastic paddle shifters, while m3/m4 gets full carbon.

No carbon fibre diffuser in the package.

No real shifter, only paddles.

Looks good, but that front camera offset - whoever approved that should just be fired immediately, lol.

Love the new interior combos, especially orange/black with green exterior.

Overall, m3 /m4 over this any given day. I see zero reason to get this and i would wait for panamera gts in july with v8 and no hybrid bs if i was looking to spend that much for a saloon.
As a 2024 M4 Comp X-drive owner I completely agree with you. I was considering the M5 wagon but after the reveal I’m out. (I used to own a CTS V wagon manual and was seriously considering this car)

Imagine the maintenance / repair costs out of warranty on this new M5. The negative environmental impact from the weight, tire wear and manufacturing complexity/components that went into this offsets any savings from the hybrid system.

I’m sure it’ll sell but they should have just dropped the M5 nameplate and named this something else altogether.

Anybody can explain to me what do you mean by no real shifters? 🧐

So i went through few of those M5 videos and there’s that one guy. I will not say wich one here. He says that the car is sooooo responsive and fantastic to drive. He did drive M5CS on the same track and he had to be in proper rev range otherwise he would have to fight for power… So guys. There you have it. Your CS is officially slow now and suddenly not immediate.

I saw that video. I was lmao through out it all. Especially when he came super close to the car ahead under braking LOL

Would love to hear Chris Harris or Throttle House's opinion.

I know. Exactly my thought. Although Chris loved M2 despite the weight since he said he couldn’t feel it. But that was 1700kg. M5 is whole different ballgame. I accept this car for fast grand tourer and very quic all-arounder cool daily for those craving for the newest tech geeks and such. But M5 as we all knew and loved is no more. It’s great that there are many other options on the market. I currently own 4 BMWs. This will be changing though.

if weight of the car didn't matter why do car companies use carbon fiber and aluminum why don't they just make them all 🛥️ so many reasons why u want a car light as possible brakes last longer tires last longer suspension lasts longer...engine doesn't work as hard better on fuel car handles better list goes on not 1 reason can think of for having a heavy vehicle other then for towing all of this nonsense who cares about weight just silly weight matters

Simplify than add lightness. Not my words but someone that knows about cars.

Its funny as well. Mercedes, VAG, BMW have all gone down this rabbit hole of insanely heavy and worse engineered (cheaper materials) cars.

The previous platform and suspension for the 5-Series was lighter and had superior materials

The previous AMG GT - was full of carbon fiber, had a dry sump, had transaxle rear mounted transmission - the new one is just heavy and crap

Porsche E-Hybrid cars weigh the same as the moon.

And now BMW M - M2 and M3 are 150kg heavier this generation. But nothing insane like the 2,5 tonnes crap M5.

They will learn. Just like Mercedes did with its 4cyl C63. It is too expensive too complicated and not what buyers wanted in general. One thing though. Performance was there. I really hope BMW will not sell too many of those and will be back to basics.
