For those of us who left way back in OS7/9 and had to contend with Office 97, what products are out there for word processing or spreadsheets? And have they come up with anything to do CAD work?

very very true! my macbook feels like shit compared to my 1.5 gb of ram PC hahaha. not that i should be comparing the two, but it's gotten pretty slow. i'm going to do a reformat soon

There's Office 2004 with Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, and there's also a Universal version of Office coming out soon.

TurboCAD 2 and 3 are both out for the Mac and they work great. One's for strictly 2D and the other can do 3D as well. Both can open up AutoCAD files from the PC.

The Microsoft Mac software business unit is the most profitable of all MS groups. The shareholders would not look kindly upon anyone who would mess with that.

See, there are more windows PCs than Macs, but there's relatively less money in site licenses and Mac users are more likely to buy an official license of Office than Windows users are...

Same reason you can find the best tuning parts for BMWs eventhough there are vastly more F0rds.

haha Ok, I love how the few oh so great Mac zealots feel I have gotten owned.

Listen you can think Mac is great in oh-so many ways. But my point stands and has yet to be taken down. Microsoft is still very user friendly. Granted, maybe sometimes it takes work to change settings or install certain software. Point is if you do it right and use the it right, it as you guys say, Just works.

Now let's also think of the hardware for a second. One member stated he doesn't need options since it runs great. Why is that? Because it is somewhat high end hardware spec wise, until the items get old.

Now lets see how many PC's in the general public do you know have great hardware? Not many. Apple's run great because they have good hardware backing them up, which comes with a price that is usually higher than one could get on their own.

I love how I never stated anything bad against Apple, yet I get attacked to no end. I love how many are attacking a company that basically created the whole computer market. I also love how some of you get all bothered over this when at the end of the day Jobs doesn't give two shits about you.

Both Microsoft and Apple have shown to have some of the worst business ethics and have shown to not care about the customer. Just now Jobs has been able to manipulate the market.

Eh, Even though Microsoft may suck in ways, atleast Gates donates huge amounts of his money. So something good comes out of it I guess.

I *KNOW* you've never used a mac for a reasonable amount of time or you would not say something stupid like that.

It's akin to Kia drivers slagging off BMWs, saying Kia's still have great handling.

I don't know if you know this, but Apple started the Personal Computer era, not Microsoft. Look it up someday. MS just weaseled it's way into it.

It was first Xerox who had the proper items and Apple kindly took it off their hands knowing it would be valuable but never told Xerox. Then Microsoft was smart enough to be able to con Apple and used some of their software.

So again Microsoft started it no matter how you cut it. Apple wasn't able to launch their product with the software before Microsoft. So your wrong.

Also, I have used a Mac a great deal. My girlfriend owns one and knows nothing about it. So I use it learn things and then explain it to her.

I love using the macbook, shoot I want a black one. But when I come home and realize Vista is pretty good and then my other system that has XP is really good. And then my system that has Windows 98 Second Edition is absolutely flawless. I think well Windows may suck at times but they aren't half bad.

Also, even a feature movie "Silicon Valley" portrayed it as I stated. That movie was done correctly too. So maybe everyone is wrong and you know something we don't.

But that isn't the case and I see your points. My main point is to not bash Microsoft and think Apple is the end all of all computers. Competition is good.

Truthfully within the coming months I will be purchasing a Macbook.

Oh one thing you are wrong about. Yes Microsoft was charged with having a monopoly. But trust me Apple is not innocent. But because they are such a small amount of computers and the small guy they were not charged.

A great point of this is, Google who recently went after Microsoft stating the new search in Vista was a monopoly and would go against Google's desktop.

Did they go after Apple who has searchlight before Windows? No. Mainly because Windows is a much larger market.

Perhaps, but you wouldn't be happier for it. Look like how they turdified the zune (which is great hardware but has the software from hell) or the xbox360 (which has reasonable software but the hardware keeps crapping out)

I don't believe that Microsfot has ever done more than the absolute minimum required to get your money. In fact, I think they're always doing slightly less but get the sale anyway because you've got their other stuff aswell.

haha ok and the original ipods were from heaven? They were clunky with ugly buttons. The batteries had a huge fiasco. Also a great deal of Apple's old computers were horrible to work with. That is why many tech guys and general people have a stigma attached to Apple computers. Only now it is slowly going away. Also even a recent event of some Apple laptops batteries catching on fire.

So all companies have their bad things. Again Apple is no different.

I am not trying to say the Zune is better than the ipod. But you are questioning Microsoft's products as if Apple has never failed or messed up.

Also although I hate the Zune, The Zune has sold 1 million units in only a few months. So some people gotta like it.

When I said again Apple is no different I ment Apple makes some crappy products from time to time. So Apple is no different in that category.

when you market a product (zune) there are always people willing to buy... people who want to try something different, people who want to experiment on it, SPOILDED little kids who want it all and although have an ipod, want a zune to be cooler than everyone else..

You do know it took a few years for the ipod to make money. So to say Apple made money and kept making money is false. And It seems like you are implying the Zune has hit it's high. I doubt that. I may not like it but that is what competition is for.

Also ipods offer nothing astonishing. Apple has just been able to milk it. This is coming from someone who owns 2. But I will be the firs to admit Apple just got lucky. Funny how before the ipod everyone considered Apple to be dead.

Please tell me what the ipod offers that many other MP3 players don't offer?

I just stated I own Ipods due to it being good MP3 player. But I wont lie and say it is the best. It lacks some features. But then again what do I know.
