I'd go Sig Sauer, I have a P228 which is 9mm & shoter barrel than the 226. Reliable as hell. Do not go for a Baretta I used to have a 92fs, shot 15 rounds, at the time it was legal in California, but it jammed all the time, It was the made in the USA version I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it?

Not sure why that sounds high, what does it include? Do they throw in a years membership to the range? What certificates do you get after completing these courses? How long is the course?

How is that Academy? you know anyone that has gone. I was just looking at it a little yesterday.
I went to the Sig academy when they first opened it in Exeter, NH. I understand that it has changed since then but is still good. You'd probably like Thunder Ranch better. It's in Lakeview Oregon and Clint Smith is a great guy. The three day Tactical Handgun training is money well spent.

Well the main one i was looking at would be the 180$ one as its basically the same as the others. It includes:

4 Hours of private instruction
Instruction on Semi-automatic and revolers
Gun Use
Ammo
Ability to apply for Florida CC when completed

If by private you mean one-on-one vs. a class, I would be all over that. Sounds like an awesome deal. The Florida CC is reciprical with a lot of other states. Im in the process of trying to obtain mine as well.

Yea 1 on 1, more than likely i will be doing it in the next 3 weeks or so and I will let you know how it goes.

Also if you dont have a CC what is the law for carrying it in your car like say you were going to the range? Some people told me as long as its not accessable from the passanger compartment (ex. trunk) some said in a locked glove box as long as if you get pulled and you have to go to your golve box for your reg or something you told the officer you had a gun in there.

Every state has different laws on that. For the most part(as I understand) you cannot keep the ammunition in the same area as the weapon. If you keep the weapon in the cabin, the ammunition must be in the trunk. You CAN carry both in the same area as long as you have NO magazines loaded and both the ammunition case and the weapons case are locked and inaccessable quickly.

If you DO keep one in your glovebox it better not be loaded otherwise it doesnt matter if you warn the cop ahead of time. If you can get to it faster than he can, hes drawing his weapon on you. That being said, I dont know the laws in every state and some may let you get away with this.

In FL, you can keep a loaded gun within reach in the a car without a CCP, as long as the weapon is 3 steps away from "ready". That means like: open glove box (1), remove from holster (2), and release manual safety (3).

For that kind of job, you might as well use some TNT. Saves ammo and you arent in harms way!

Just curious--why didn't you like the G19? I've been reading up on them, and it seems to be something that's right up my alley. I have not held or fired one--hope to do so this weekend, but I just wondered if you had some more specifics...

Surprised no one's mentioned the M9 a.k.a. Beretta 92FS..excellent starter pistol.

Consider rising ammo prices as well. Even .22's are jumping through the roof. 9mm are great for plinking/practice and suitable for home defense situations. Question #5 jumps way too far ahead of your current learning curve. Take it slow and familiarize yourself with the basics before you CCW.

As for those that asked about the shotty, Remington 870. Time tested, mother approved. Well, father..Pistol grips are cumbersome, but to each his own. ....remember, keep it in the 10 ring.

IMO, those are perfect starters for each category of firearm. Also consider buying used as it will free up some $ for range time and ammo.

i've shot a 357 magnum and a silly little 9mm WAY back in my day.....i want a desert eagle or a 44 mag.

no im jk i dont know if i want a gun, im too afraid that something would go wrong and i'll end up in jail. Its funny that in CA you have to be 21 to purchase a hand gun (probably due to the fact that hand guns are easily concealable) and only 18 to purchase a 12 gauge, 50 caliber, or other elephant like guns haha.....

I personally didnt like it because it vibrated a lot and it felt small for my hands. However like most people say its personal preference.

I got some serious range time with my friends XD45 and I must say Im really impressed with that gun. It might be my next handgun purchase.

Is that a statute or an urban legend? If a statute, would you care to cite?

I prefer 9mm or .40 for concealed carry. I routinely carry a Firestar 9mm, they are no longer produced however you can still find new ones for less than $400. They are a high quality gun and an excellent concealed carry piece in terms of size/shape. Only downside is it's single action.

Planning to get a HK USP Compact 9mm to try for carry in the near future. Also highly recommend Sig Sauers if you don't mind their price.

I don't give a sh1t what the AG types say...their opinions are based on fear and being close minded. If I would ever have the chance to meet an AG type who actually has some in-depth knowledge of firearms (other than statistics) I may have more respect for their viewpoint.
