If they told ppl what would you rather have a BMW inline 6 with 335hp from a 3series or a new Toyota/Lexus 3.5 V6 TT with over 400hp - guess what the answer would be?

The new LS is a huge disappointment.
Each time a new LS generation came out it handily outsold Sclass in 1st few years partly because its $20-30k cheaper. This new one is collecting dust. Lexus is offering $8,000 lease cash to move them in 1st year!

I guess Toyota decided that the LC is their halo. They don't want the Supra competing with it.

You can believe whatever, but Tada san's words were that people said a new Supra must be: RWD, front engine, and have a straight six. If they told people if they wanted the new Supra to be 4,000lbs or 3,200lbs - guess what the answer would be? We can go back and forth all day, but it is what it is. Like it or not Toyota chose to build this with BMW. IMO, it was probably the only way to get a green light from the Toyota board members. While also help keeping cost down, because we all know how great the A80 Supra sold.

If the new LS is a huge disappointment, than that must make the 7er a super huge disappointment. Ok, and BMW offers $5,500 for the 7er.

I wonder if that 3.5 TTV6 would even fit in this chassis.

Anyways, almost the final countdown!

Again what people?
Supra was always a FAST GT car not a small nimble sports car.
People love doing highway pulls or 1/4 mile not taking it to autocross.

Tada san was told to take this BMW Z4 and like it or no Supra at all.
At the end of the day he is just an engineer and has no decision making authority in the big picture. He is trying to save face but parading a BMW Z4 in some different sheetmetal and calling that a Supra is a damn travesty.

Probably the same people that complained about the R35 not having an I6.
The Supra was NOT always a FAST GT (A40, A60 and A70 with 7M). Which people? Are all Supras all over the world packing 1000hp+? The leak specs have the new car at 5.4 inches shorter than the A80. That really isn't much differences. That's like removing the rear bumper off of the A80, and we have the overall lenght of the A90. And if all you care about is speed, than wait for the GRMN Supra. According to those in the know, its going to be a very special car.

Right, because you know everything that went on behind close doors. Why don't you stop hyperventilating until you actually get to sample one? I'm not saying it's going to be the next best thing to sliced bread, but people should stop prejudging before hand.

Why can’t you just admit its a Z4 coupe with a Supra badge?

Since im clueless - please Tell me 1 mechanical part that was developed by Toyota.

The Supra both the A70 and A80 were not light sports cars especially compared to cars like FD RX7, NSX etc. They were 2+2 coupes that were fast and very capable.

The new Supra can only dream of having the same impact R35 GTR had. Are you kidding me? That car was incredible when it first introduced smoking almost every supercar. Everyone and their mother was talking about it.

A 335hp Supra that will get beat by average Mustang GT is not exciting to anyone.

My point was to use the new RWD chassis that underpins the new LS and LC500.
The next generation IS will also use it.

Toyota is just lazy and cheap to invest the R&D into using it for the Supra.
The sad part is they have all the hardware internally - new TT V6 making over 400hp/tq, new RWD chassis, 10speed trans etc.
Again goes back to the bean counters and obviously the BMW Supra is much cheaper alternative......

1. Have I ever said it has any Toyota parts? Please show me where I said such a thing? What I have posted in the past was the possibility of the GRMN Supra have more of Toyota's involvement, according to inside info.

2. The A70 was not fast. Unless your talking about the oversea model with the 1JZ. The TT A80 (3,485lbs) wasn't super light but it at the same time it wasn't as heavy as the 3,600lbs 300ZX (2+2 TT) and 3,700lbs 3000GT VR4.

3. I never said the R35 wasn't great. But yet there were those still whining and complaining about the lack of the I6 and MT.

4. Well if that's that case what's the point of other cars like the SLC, Z4, Boxster, Cayman, TT, F-Type, BRZ/86, 370z, lower BMW M models and etc. when everyone can just get a Mustang?

Again, stop hyperventilating. On the 14th if you don't like what you see than by all means, whine and complain all you want. And the best part is that no one is forcing you to buy one.

Curious note, as Wiki lists a Z32 300ZX TT 2+2, but did the US actually get such a thing? I recall that the TT's were only two seaters.

The only one I ever drove was intent on spraying its coolant through the heater onto the floor mats during my test drive. Did not instill confidence.

"New U.S. regulations for side-impact protection would have required a complete redesign of the Z for the 1997 model year, and a new model wasn't in the cards just yet. Nissan decided to retire the U.S.-market Z32 after 1996 and commissioned a final run of 300 Commemorative Edition cars. These cars received special badging and numbered plaques of authenticity. A total of 171 naturally aspirated two-seaters, 51 2+2 coupes, and 78 Turbo models comprised the so-called Last 300, which were offered in addition to the 2629 non-Commemorative Edition Z32s sold in 1996."

"The 2+2 was only offered in naturally aspirated trim in the U.S., though models do exist elsewhere in the world with both rear seats and a "Twin Turbo" badge on the rear hatch."

Thanks SakhirM4

I did find a pic of a LHD TT 2+2 and it's just as bad as I expected.

I didn't clear that with my four year old. I really don't know the difference. Yes, RHD.

I don’t really care about anything about the new Supra except for ONE thing. If available with a manual, I will buy one. If not, I won’t. I have NEVER been tempted to buy an automatic Mark IV. The Mark V is not going to change that sentiment for me.

If not, the front bumper will have a different design than what’s been seen and rendered online. Also, I noticed that the crease that outlines the “nose” of the Supra is sharp rather than being smooth.

Drape a sheet over the last pic shown of the supra in camo with license plate and you have the nose you see under the red sheet at Detroit.

Ah, I see it now. Had to zoom in further. Still curious about the license plate area.

Guess we’ll find out soon....
