Here's a shot from my first outing, with my Sony FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS, mounted on my a9. This snowy egret was flying straight at me, first in bright sun and then landing in deep shadows. 62 our of 66 frames were tack sharp:

Thanks Mark!

Amazing that I travel hundreds of miles to take photos, and one of my best is from a random afternoon while sipping a beer in my backyard

Thanks Dave!
I agree it adds a lot to the hummer and bee pics, but its a good thing I don't zoom out.

That poor plant was old when I bought the house 12 years ago and it now sadly on its last legs. Used to get dozens and dozens of flowers, this year down to really only about 10. I may plant another as I love how it attracts nature, but it will take a while to grow to the size of the current one which is over 10 feet tall.

There's a guy, over on DPReview, saying that AF, on the a9, isn't as fast or reliable as the 100-400mm GM OSS. What do you think?

Dave

I haven't had a chance to really test it yet on BIF or anything, but it seems perfectly zippy to me. Now keep in mind I always had the 1.4 on my 100-400. I won't really know until the end of September or October when the raptors start migrating back this way to really get a food feel. Claims like that are usually subjective and largely use based anyway. How it works on a football field is useless to me and how it tracks a hawk is worthless to a sports guy.

What I can say is it picks up hummingbirds and bees pretty well
