Econet Bulldog water valve shutoff robot and a Hubitat Elevation C8 Z-Wave controller to make it all work with Homekit. Now if any of my leak detectors senses a leak, the main water valve for the house gets shut off.

How was the install? Please keep us posted on how you like it. I’ve been thinking about something like that for a while now.

Mounting the valve robot was a bit of a pain, but only because the valve in my house is in a very tight spot with a water softening system in front of it. So I had to reach over the water softener and into a tight corner to mount it. If you have better access to the valve, mounting the robot would be trivial.

Getting it to talk to the Hubitat Z-Wave controller was not as easy. It's my first time using a Z-Wave controller, so there was a bit of a learning curve. It kept showing up as an unidentified device whenever I tried to pair it (Z-Wave folks call it "Inclusion.") I was getting frustrated, but then I tried resetting the Z-Wave radio. After that, it paired right up. Live and learn.

I can see this being ideal for folks who have rentals. When no one is there, you can remotely turn off the water.

I am primarily thinking about it for our vacation condo. Right now, I manually shut off the water valve when we leave and manually turn it on when we return to use the place. But it’s easy to forget and also we have a cleaning lady who could forget to turn it off after cleaning when we aren’t there. Water pressure is very high and there has already been a burst line in another unit in the building, causing quite a bit of damage mostly to the units below it. I need to study further…

They make a wifi version of this valve robot so you don't need a Z-Wave controller. I can't say how well it works, since I don't have one. But if you're going to research these things, check out the wifi version. Reddit is good place to see if there are a gazillion people complaining about a product.

Yes. It's the reason I bought this particular device. It's known for its strong torque.

Nice. There's another shutoff valve that's Z-wave compatible from Zooz. It's called the Titan, and it's motor is very strong. It is the only one I found that is strong enough to open/close our valve. They sell it stand-alone for those who already have a Z-wave HA setup, or as a kit with a Z-wave hub. There's even a backup battery available.

The SmartestHouse - WATER SHUT-OFF VALVES FOR LEAK PREVENTION

Hubitat is the way to go for community-driven HA, in my opinion. I'm on my 3rd Hub and have an extensive system with lights, sensors, actuators, etc. Probably 125 devices in all. Eight are water sensors, and I use the built-in Hubitat Safety Monitor to detect whenever one of them gets "wet" at which point it closes the valve. I also run a weekly valve test just to make sure that it's working.

Home Assistant is getting more user-friendly every month, and blows my old Hubitat away in terms of included and third-party integrations.....

Please post photos! I've always wanted one but haven't made it happen yet. Growing up I had a nice 0-27 gauge indoor layout, every birthday it was a toss up between picking out a new engine/car or a Lego set. $50 was my limit so the purchasing power wasn't much in the Lionel world lol. The trains are still at my parents, I should get them out sometime...been over 20+ years since I've seen them.

My word - I need this for my fish tank, since I've flooded the house twice.
