Why not just offer lighter pure ICE M5?
Except when you realize the Mode S Plaid weighs 600lbs less than this thing.

With these weight figures, just make an i5M or something like that. It's the same story with AMG e-performance, lots of power but it's just not good enough.

Power to weight ratio means nothing really, especially comparing full ICE to a Hybrid. Very different power delivery.
Every time they did something weird, we whined and then they surprised us with the performance. I would be surprised if the F90 outperforms G90

It will sell as well as that new C63 with 4 cylinder and all that power. Nobody wants those. You gents vote with your wallets and think twice before buying. I would definitely not buy one if in the market for it BEFORE driving one.

Almost heavy enough to meet section 179.

We all should really not underestimate how much of an impact tire companies like Michelin. Without them these heavy cars could not do what they do.

I’m not focusing on/do not care about the increases in size, weight, etc.

If BMW and/or M can give the G90 the special sauce that make this car as quick, enjoyable, and easy to live with as my F90s, I’m in as my DD; (though I’ll never give up the F90).

Do I believe this is entirely possible? Not really given the many, many reasons discussed in 6 pages of this thread. But one can hope. 🤞

A TT V8 hybrid makes no sense. Hybrids generally don't make sense for performance cars. They should just go full EV if they can't go ICE alone.

Braking and cornering is going to suffer, physics don't lie. G90 technically has worse power-to-weight ratio, so it won't make up time on the straights.
brake pads and tires … bring a service truck with it

now cooling system must be an absolute nightmare … gl to anybody that plans to buy this creature

simply looking at engineering complexity this vehicle will have 0 value in max 10y … who will maintain it??

BMW should live by “simplify, then add lightness”

I sure as hell hope they’re not using the ultimate driving machine slogan anymore.

This is a disgrace to everything BMW used to stand for.

I think this is partially clickbait. Kinetic energy is 1/2*m*v^2. Note the v squared term. Going a few mph faster dramatically increases kinetic energy. A light car moving faster will do even more damage to the barrier. A 4000 lb car going 30 mph will be roughly equal to a 3000 lb car going 35 mph.

So basically E60 M5 still is the most fun M5 and F90 is the most powerful ICE M5
Most probably F90 will be the collection M5 in future...

I am absolutely not surprised by these G90 specs, to be honest I thought it would have a bigger and heavier battery.

I wish I could blame BMW for all this but that would mean that there is a chance that this can get any better. The sad truth is that this will become worse and worse with every generation - I remember being disappointed that my F90 competition LCI had nearly two tons and was 100 kg havier than my old non Comp first edition - sounds like two light weight vehicles from todays point of view…

I think (looking at the G series m2/m3/m4, also heavy af) BMW will somehow manage to hide some of the weight but knowing that Porsche is also pretty good in chassis tuning and knowing how the Panamera e hybrid drives, hmm, well let’s see..
Well Panamera is not a sport car and nobody can claim "it's build in track for track"... This is what exactly BMW advertises for M-Cars
speaking about Panamera let me leave this video here ....
