It's a shame too. They tout the 480x320 screen, which does look fantastic, but can only hold a few higher resolution few movies in their 16GB (biggest) model. They could have easily piggybacked another 16gb chip in there. The other features are what I'd want, and they did take care of two of the three things that I wanted in an iPhone (more storage, 3G, and GPS). i'll wait for the one with more space on it, and be happy with my AT&T Tilt for now. |

It's already diffcult to manage my music, as one of my daughters stores her music on my iTunes library right now, and it's being managed via using the checkbox for my songs, and hers are unchecked and in her playlists. I definitely wouldn't want to add the complexity of parsing out my music even further. Since it's a convergence device, and doesn't come close to the storage capacity of devices it would replace for me, I'll pass for now, even though I think it's pretty cool. I also like having hard keys to thumb type on, and in my time spent trying to send text messages and emails on an iPhone, I was much, much slower on the screen typing. (I could use Office apps too, which the iPhone can't have) For a non-business phone.. students and such, it's a righteous phone. |

Not quite twice the features. Not even close. More like 4ish features... I was disappointed, but the low price does make it tempting. Good job Apple.

I agree with Larry on the size, too. I have a LOT of music, videos, and TV shows. My 80 GB iPod is strictly for music and it's almost full (67-68 gigs worth). I've always left it in my car unless I was going somewhere on vacation. With the iPhone bragging about it's movie playback, it seems a bit silly to only have 16 gigs. That's like 5 movies, with no music. I'm not saying people are ONLY using the iPhone for movies. However, if you've got any sort of a music collection, that will limit the space for any movies or shows to put on there. I wouldn't be surprised to see Apple come out with higher-capacity iPhone right after the initial hype dies down.

I'll play devils advocate with all of you.
I have around 150GB of music, but I will never travel anywhere on the planet that will require me to take more than 8gb with me. I prefer to load my absolute favorites on my iPhone, not my entire library. TV shows and/or Movies can be set for removal from your iPhone after you watch them. The iPhone is a mobile viewing platform, not a archive storage device. I also keep all my music on a server in the house that everyone else access' via their own itunes software. Easy management. As for typing on the screen, I hated it at first... until it learns how you type. Now I can send messages faster than my BB buddies. I know a plenty of business users using the iPhone, and more will come with full exchange support.

Have they announced if the keyboard will change orientation when holding the phone horizontal?

The virtual keyboard does change to landscape (Horizontal) when in Safari currently, but not in any other app. Maybe we will see this in the 2.0 software upgrade?

You have to wait until July 11th...then go to an Apple Store or AT&T store.

Maybe the need the space to fit all the other stuff in there, you know, to make it a phone and not an ipod. That and probably a massive battery also.

Can you fill me in on how to set this up in iTunes? I have never had an iPod before, but I have read that iTunes wants to do all sorts of crap to your library - moving songs around, etc. I have over 100 gigbytes of music mostly ripped from around 800 CDs that I want to keep in a very specific organizational structure (ARTIST-->ALBUM-->SONG) in a very specific place as it is accessed by a variety of other devices in my home. I do not want iTunes messing with anything, just reading what is there and adding things I buy into the same structure. Is that even possible?
