what is not constant is how many days it takes to ovulate...that is called the follicular phase...a normal follicular phase is anywhere from 7 to 21 days...this corresponds to a 21 to 35 day cycle

Sorry, it is wordy...I'll try to clean it up...

The first day that a woman bleeds is day #1 of her cycle. A normal period is from 3 to 7 days. A woman will ovulate anywhere from day #7 to #21. Most women that have 28 day cycles ovulate on day #14. But it varies from woman to woman and month to month. This part of the cycles is called the follicular phase because the ovary is growing the dominant follicle (or egg).

If she does not get pregnant (most women are more interested in sex around ovulation) then she will bleed 14 days after ovulation. This is called the luteal phase. This is when they start getting PMS (premenstrual syndrome) that peaks with the onset of the menses and then goes away.

So...if ovulates on day #7 = 21 day cycle...if on day #14 (most women) then 28 day cycle...and if up to day #21 = 35 day cycle...
