Yeah I'm wide low bar squatter but even then ass to the ground not possible with limited range of knee. Breaking parallel is possible but barely so have been able to compete. I've used wrestling shoe for long time but gonna give a lifting shoe a try.

I tend to be the later but also suffer some back issues while squating so possibly a lifted heel would help reach depth while remaining more upright. I also have limited range of motion with my right knee due to previous surgeries.
There are tons of variations of Barbell squats. The key is finding the ones that work best for you. High bar, Low bar, wide stance, narrow stance, Back Squat, Box Squat, front Squat, Overhead Squat, tempo squats, pause squats, 1 1/4 squats...the list goes on and on.

They are hands down one of thee best movements you can do, period!

Do them with correct form and technique and you shouldn’t have any issues.
I am in no way injury free, and have to work around knee issues and low back issues for 15 years....and I still Squat like a maniac to this day!!!!

Squat Mafia for Life!!!!!

I did low bar for awhile, and without question aggravated my low back. The day I switched to only high bar and first in movement is break at the knee, staying more upright in alignment, my back pain went away!

Low bar put my low back and hips (pelvis) in a tilted position causing “butt wink” which is not good. Especially over time with heavy load.

Sounds like you may be similar to me bro. I recommend watching Max Aita, big time squatter and strength coach. Pushes big weight high bar style. The switch helped me tremendously! My numbers were lower initially but after I mastered the technique 1 RM went up to my low bar 1 RM, over 405. No back pain, strain or tightness after I Squat!!!! Priceless!!!

Don't have flexibility in knees or shin ankle area to get anywhere near parallel with narrow stance high bar squat. Do them as partials for quads at times.

Yeah I can do those, i suspect those are how my vertebrae happened in younger years. Seems weird to take load of back and legs then start again and if barely tap and go might as well just do stop using my muscles not the box.

I use them for explosive power from a stopped position, more fast twitch muscle fibers activated. You could do more of a touch and go if that’s better for you. But adjusting the box height should slowly increase your ability to go at least a bit below parallel while maintaining good position and alignment. Just a thought.

I got you, can go below parallel barely with wide stance not quite parallel with narrow. Heel lift may get me there Not sure just an experiment. Gym time, shoulders and traps.

When you say narrow do you mean shoulder width? Or even more narrow then that?

No shoulder width is narrow for me. But that's also toes pointed out. Straight ahead forget about it. 1/4-1/2 about all I'm good for then.

I hear ya, that’s tough. Your right then, definitely a mobility issue through hips and ankles. Mobilize those areas and try the Lifters. And try retraining your position doing box squats with lighter weight. Chip away at it little by little. You can do it brother 👊

Awesome! I want to break out and dust off my old lifting belt and straps to see what I can pull these days. They've been collecting dust for about a decade.

I did use the chain belt to do some weighted dips. Those are always fun. It's nice because people never do them so any weight looks like a lot of weight.

People who use lockers without putting a lock on them.

I have to go through like 5-6 "empty" lockers every time I walk into the gym because people just throw their shit in them. There's separate hangers if you want to hang your coat. If you want to store things in a locker, you should get a lock. I'm not a thief personally, but I'd laugh if they came back and found their stuff missing after a workout one day. That would teach them a lesson.

I always move their stuff out and put them in a bottom locker.

I also once (was in a bad mood) found someone's unlocked lock and used it on someone who left their stuff in a locker without a lock.

Shits annoying. Like seriously, just buy a damn lock for 8 bucks.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way

The best part is, when these guys do get their stuff jacked, they'll go and complain to the staff at the gym as if it's their fault, when in reality they're only deflecting from the fact that they didn't take the preventative measures necessary to avoid being in that situation.

Totally unrelated, but I found out recently that in Quebec you can actually get a ticket for leaving your car doors unlocked when you park in a public place. Sounds crazy right? Not really. The idiots that don't bother locking up their cars (whether or not they have any valuables inside), are the same people who will go and waste taxpayer resources to investigate a case that developed strictly from incompetence and neglect on their part.

With that being said, I'm going to start ticketing morons at the gym who don't see the necessity in buying a lock, yet expect to use a locker without having their shit stolen.

I generally wear a minimalistic shoe for lifting, but have been looking to get olympic lifting shoes as I have heard good feedback about them (pretty much just for squat and C/J)

I use a lifting belt only when lifting heavy, but use it 100% of the time I am lifting heavy just because my dad was always plagued with back problems and I will do anything I can to avoid that (sometimes good form isn't enough on it's own)
