Yes, there`s not much to see going up to Cachopo from Tavira, but it`s still a beautiful country road drive if you like driving on the backroads.. It`s a perfect road track with little to no traffic.

I drove mostly on country roads to get around Algarve. I was on vacation and not in a hurry to get anywhere quick . From Cachopo I took N124 (another beautiful country drive) and ended up in Alte. Alte is a beautiful little village on the side of a mountain.

We had our first cold night last night, about -2c. This morning I went out and noticed a small piece of the curb had broken away. There's no evidence that it was struck by anything and it was beside my Golf so nothing could get there anyway. Upon closer inspection what I first thought was rebar turned out to be a small, rotten stick that was buried in the concrete. I wouldn't have thought that -2c (28f) would be cold enough to freeze that stick hard enough to break concrete but I can't think of any other explanation. Thoughts anyone?

Moisture from the stick can expand 9% when it freezes... Just guessing.

So we moved from our log home north of Kingston Ont. in July to Port Carling in the Muskoka region of Ontario. Over the last 3 days we hade record snow fall, (according to one of Murphys Laws, Mother nature is a bitch) over 1 meter (that's a yard for our friends south of the 49th). The power was out for almost 48 hours. We started the process to get a Generac when we took possession in July. The generator is sitting on its pad connected to our propane torpedo but we are still waiting for Hydro One to connect our new service so we can use the generator. Thank god for the wood stove, it kept us very warm and between that, my bbq, camp stove and well stocked pantry it wasn't much more than inconvenient. The snow has stopped, the power is on and woke up to a nice sunset. Life is good folks.
