At several points during dinner, everyone of them was buried in their phone texting or looking at social media. I figure now most younger people in that generation dislike interacting face to face or hearing other people's voices. My prediction for our dystopian future: we become a mute society who can only communicate through typed messages.

Sara, you only need one advice, and you don't need to wait for the third date prospect:

Seek counselling. You've been through a lot, and are going through a lot again. Cycles never end until you understand their root. Not saying you have a problem per se, people usually talk about counselling with a negative connotation. It should be positive and assist you in finding the answers that lie within yourself.

I'm 25 and hate texting the majority of the time. In my closest circle of friends, we call. We also refrain from staring at our phones when hanging out. When you put others into the mix it's not always possible. I've tried calling other friends while driving and they insist that I text. I gave them a good berating after showing up in person.

I do see so many people everywhere I go just mindlessly staring into their phone or too timid to actually talk. Not developing real interpersonal skills will only cost you money and opportunities in life. Fine with me I guess, less competition in that regard.

Oh and one more thing...fk selfies and selfy sticks.

I had that convo with a director of marketing at a BMWCCA meet a month or so ago. She agreed that social skills are becoming a commodity.

I used to have Facebook when it was just a game. It replaced real social interaction entirely in some circumstances (birthdays and life updates for instance, it's all online now). Quit it over a year ago. Never looked back.
