I find quite interesting how some of you consider a 90k income as "middle class".
Here in Spain it would be high class
It depends where you are in the world.

In the states, 90k where i'm from is middle class.

Now obviously you can live comfortably with a lot less, but you're also going to be having a lot less and doing a lot less (in terms of free time).

Our government is printing money left and right. So 90k is not what it used to be here in the states. Based on the average income of a home. I would still say its still above middle class.

It's funny when I was in high school, I thought If I just make 50k a year I would be fine…the things you don't think about, health insurance, taxes, 401k and kids. The more money you make, the more you have a tendency to spend. Which is fine as long as you're saving as well, it's amazing how much work your money can do for you if you just had some. It's like having another or a better job that makes more money than what you make but yet physically you don't have to do a thing.

I know several acquaintances (super nice people) they had hellcats but were younger than me by 5-10 years. One lived in an apartment while the others house was barley worth more than his Hellcat. One of them leased, while the other bought it. Thats not the financial choices I would personally make. However, my life priorities are different from them. They seem happy, so who am I to judge.

Yeah interesting thing health insurance.
I dont know how much you pay for that in the States. Here all health issues are covered by the Government, you don't have to pay anything, even if you are not spanish.
Anyway, your system is much better IMHO. Here we have tons of national debt because of National Healthcare System, and hospital equipment is probably worse, as well as we have very long lists to a surgical procedure.

That's great. Here in Westchester NY,
$90,000, would be lower Middle class at best and not a comfortable living if you have a family.

That makes sense, I work as an orthopedic surgeon (mainly hip and knee arthroplasty), and as far as I know, same job in there could be having incomes as high as 400k per year.
Lucky you guys that live there. I tried to, once a long time ago.

Our orthos over here pull up to 600-700k in private practice. As a medical field, ortho in the US is one of the highest paid, especially if you are doing total joints. Average is around $430k last time I looked.

But hospitals systems are rapidly trying to cut that down.

I'm an internal medicine hospitalist and I make 400+ but I live in the middle of nowhere USA. God, the orthos at our hospital must cost an arm and a leg .

Imagine having so little class that you would discuss your income like this, let alone post it online.

In the area I live I am friends with a lot of people that make much less than me and much more. These are actual friends and we never discuss "how much we make". It's none of my business and none of theirs. Nothing good can come if it and it's not necessary except to fulfill egos for those that need that type of feedback and morbid curiously of those that are asking.

I don't think you understand how public discussion forums work.

I'm British, and discussing one's salary or wealth is just about the most unclassy thing you can do. Nobody would ask and nobody ever tell. It's just so...naff.

It's extremely tacky.

I only posted mine to show the board that middle class people like me CAN afford the car. Not everyone is a millionaire on here. And not all of us like with our parents or have roommates.

The amount of insecurity is striking!

You do realize that keeping salaries secret is how companies are able to keep salaries low. Social media is changing that. It's a classic game theory problem. HR knows, but not others. It's why in tech companies people are more likely to share such info and it leads to better outcomes…just saying. Nothing to do with class. This is just info…shared anonymously FWIW.

Yes. Except here it is anonymous. So it is actually useful. How do you think Glassdoor or LinkedIn comes up with their salary data?
