That isn't known yet (outside of BMW's planning offices, I suppose), but if the transmission truly is running at max torque, that would be surprising.

Barring big changes in regulations and legislation, it wouldn't surprise me if this is the last M5 with a V8.

No Demuro or SavageGeese this round. The drives were in Germany and only a few Youtubers were invited. StraigthtPipes will have one, but not sure if it's the same autobahn top run style.

BMW said that in the F90 the take rate of the Comp was almost 100%. It did not make financial or logistical sense to continue to make a “base” and “competition”.

Now there may be a CS model or something later, but BMW has said there will not be a G90/99 Comp.

Transmissions don’t care about power but care a lot about torque. Right now the 4th gen of the ZF 8HP transmission is rated at 1,000 Nm in its highest spec. This is the same amount of torque the G90/99 is rated at coincidentally. Who knows what ZF is cooking up, but to give the G90/99 more torque they would need a revised transmission at the least. ZF would need other customers to develop a new PHEV transmission rated at more than 1,000nm. ZF developing that for just one vehicle of one customer doesn’t make sense to me. Especially with PHEV technology being a transitory technology until battery tech give EV’s better market saturation.

Depending on what Audi does with the next RS7 maybe there will be a market for that transmission.

The verdict
Looks like the touring does not drive as good as the sedan and was little surprising
Glad i ordered the sedan

Not much of a difference really. It was also tougher to get a proper assessment. We only got the touring for 90 min versus 8 hours with the sedan.

Since most people focused on autobahn top speed driving, I can tell you there is a zero difference there.

I'd still take the touring over the sedan.

I came to a different conclusion that the touring makes for a even better daily than the sedan because 1) practicality and 2) seems to have a ever so slightly softer suspension.

AutotopNL was the only one that didn’t seem to like the car but he also couldn’t get over the upshift sound which seems intentional based on other YouTubers.

Yeah, seems like the Touring was rated very positively by everyone except AutoTopNL.

AutoTopNL basically said that it just feels different compared to sedan and didn't like the upshift. Other than that, don't seem very negative.

If you think about the people that will opt for the Touring would more likely have kids or a dog in the car so making it slightly softer makes sense compared to the sedan. Reviews didn't seem like it impacted handling but rather the feel is slightly different where there is a split second for the suspension to load up and react compared to the sedan.

Visually I like both but prefer the touring a little more. I can't wait to see it with a set of meaty wide wheels from the back.

Didn't he drive it mostly on the Autobahn or only on the Autobahn? This car needs to be put a bit through some corners otherwise it's boring in straight line and at 300 kph.

Put me in this bucket. My Newfoundland might be a little upset if I tried to shove her in the trunk of the sedan.

Agree with you
Although i prefer the taillights of the touring but i will take the sedan given drives better and i only have one kid and i do not want to wait for the touring
If i want a touring i will get an RS6 given it like the look of the rs6 better (depite being a bmw guy)

I like the RS6 too but can't get over the fact that its a aging platform both inside and out. The next gen Audi super wagon is really going to make the current one look archaic.

Too bad that there's info circulating, that Audi is going with a V6 instead of a V8 with a new one.

Plus I heard they are going to call it RS7 instead of RS6.

All the even numbers are reserved for the electric vehicles. The RS6 name is iconic imo...

Thats right
I would rather have ice car or full electric car
I am looking forward for the new full ev M3 i think it will be a great car
At least now we still have a v8 so can not complain about the new M5 (the only thing that i wish they did is to have 800 hp from factory instead of the 727 they have)
But a piggy back and intake/inlets and maybe downpipes and we have 800+ hp car
