He was jumping so high that the bar was coming to his shoulders, but this was entirely due to the size of the box. Not only this, he was doing them as fast as he could, doing like 15 "rep" sets... I think most of the gym was just laughing at him.

These moves were later followed up by some sort of swooping crane style lunges...

I know there area millions of stories about "curl in the squat rack" and "bend and the waist while curling" guy... Let's hear em..
If this guy was indeed doing jumping chin ups (and from your description, he was), he may well have been in the middle of a CrossFit workout, followed by walking lunges (which, from your description, he also was).....

If so, and he was an accomplished CrossFitter (likely, even a moderately accomplished CrossFitter), I would wager he could embarass 99.9% of anyone on this, or any forum in terms of overall fitness.

There is a purpose to jumping chin ups, as is the case with his "swooping crane style lunges". Did you watch his whole work out? It might have looked easy, but I would bet it was far from.

They have a saying in CrossFit - "bicep curls..... how cute...." Did you perhaps consider that the movements this guy was doing were actually empirically verified to be more effective than the archaic routines that you may well be stuck doing?

Think outside the box.

Functional movements are the way to go for real gains in overall fitness. Sure, you can do bench press, biceps curls, leg curls until the cows come home, but will you have true, functional fitness?

Remember - we mock that which we do not understand...

Ok, this is just kind of a rant
Finishing up my workout, I only had tricep extensions to go. Naturally, all the machines are taken, and there's a bit of a line for it. I finally get to be next in line, and there's this guy who's taking up 3 different machines, the tricep extensions, the bicep curls (with the three different weight placements), and the pull-up bar. I was starting to cool down, and asked if I could work in on the tricep extension machine. He said, "No, not really, I have a lot more sets to go, so you might as well go somewhere else."

I waited for someone else to finish up on a different tricep extension, but it was a pair of guys working on one, and a girl and a personal trainer on another.

This guy had several towels with him. One on each of the machines he was "using." I think the part that really annoyed me (other than he wouldn't let anyone work in with him) was he had bad form, and wasn't even lifting very much. He just had a face that made you want to deliver a punch square to his nose. He was wearing a collared, green polo shirt and some khaki shorts. He had these really skinny forearms that were really hairy.

I've never really met anyone at the gym who wouldn't let you "work-in" between their sets. Especially on tricep extensions where you can just set the pin where you want the weight.

Anyway, I hit the treadmill for 10 min to get some cardio in, came back, and he was still on the same 3 machines. He saw me and said, "you're not getting on here today."

It was getting late, so I just left...the whole time just thinking what a douche.

Never experienced that, but it pisses me off nonetheless. I understand people wanting to superset, but its highly annoying when they're supersetting 2 or 3 machines all over the gym. People just don't have respect for others.

I don't mind if they superset, as long as they understand they're not the only ones in the gym. Allow people to work in!

/\ No way I would have allwoed that. You can use one machine at a time, two if you're stretching it and being a douche. Three? Yea right! You should have just sat down on the tricep machine and started using it anyhow. You can certainly hit a set on that machine while he's hitting a set on another. If he wants to argue, well, you already said the guy was skinny, and he could make a comotion because the gym staff are going to tell him to stop being a doofus and share equipment.

Either that, or throw his towel on the ground and tell him beat it.

Yup, that's called "common courtesy," something which that fucker did not seem to learn from his parents.

If I see someone "lingering" by whatever apparatus I'm using, I'll either
(a) Ask if they want to work in
(b) I'll hurry up and get my ass moving to get off if they tell me they're going to do something else (i.e. shoulder press on the power rack if I'm squatting).

However, I'll digress for a minute. If I was in a "good" mood that day, rather than telling him off I'd inform the gym staff of his "lack of common sense" and let them reprimand him (rather than me getting 86'd from the gym lol).

Thanks guys! Good to know most of your workouts are like mine. I can go solo, or there with about 4 friends sometimes. When we are all on the same thing and we notice someone checking on the bench/machine/whatever, we always allow them to work in with us. I know it sounds cheesy, but it's a great way to make friends.

BTW, the guy kind of looked like this, but with a dark tan, black hair, and really hairy arms:

Maybe we should change the name of this thread to perverts or sexual deviants at the gym.

LMAO! More nudity in the locker room.

This time dude (probably late 40's-50's) is shaving.

Then saw a fairly hairy guy using the automatic hand dryers that are higher up drying off his arms.

This is cracking me up seeing other peoples routines.

Almost ran into 'naked-shave guy' in the locker room when I'm rounding the corner. Thank the lord he had a towel over his junk. But seriously, WTF is wrong with you. Is it too much to wear underwear while you shave?

CrossFit is no joke, but jumping pullups aren't exactly something to proud of.
