I'm really stumped and would love some suggestions for wall art on the stairway. I'm all over the lot. It doesn't help that Great Big Canvas and Art.com have like 100,000 choices. I go from cool black and white photography, to nature close ups, to art deco, to the black and white photos of women with hats pulled over their eyes and bright red lipstick (I can't seem to find any though). I think I would rather have two or three vertical pictures instead of one big horizontal. Still not sure on the black and white or if I need to throw a bunch of color in there.
Here is the wall

The wall color and spindles.....

Also, I'd go B&W and multiple photos for that area. Either multiple smalls, staggered in various sizes or just a few of the same size.

Thank you. The colors are soothing. Previous owners had some strange taste. Walls were dark mauve, orange, yellow....my eyes were bleeding. I was originally going to do the wood floors and steps darker when I thought I had plenty of time to stay in my old house and get the work done. I couldn't/wouldn't do that while living in the house.

Glad you mentioned that since I didn't want to insult you over the prior color scheme. lol The update is a huge improvement!

I agree w/ Rudi on the B&W. Even a B&W print w/ a small amount of color mask would be okay but I don't think red would work.

At first all the sample colors we put up looked distorted. The colors were so dark and crazy we had to prime the walls before putting sample colors up -

I have been meaning to post these for a while now.

We redid my youngest son's room recently. We originally painted it green and white stripes to the chair rail when my first was born as seen in the first picture, the only picture I could find and doesn't really show the room that well, but picture that on all the walls. It was good for a baby's room, but not going to suit a teenager.

Now that my youngest is 3, we redid it to give him a room that will stay with him till he moves out and did an automotive / motorcycle theme. Still some more pictures to come for the wall, but the last picture is a snapshot of the finished product mostly.

And yes, that's actual aluminum on the walls in diamond plate pattern. Lot of cutting and measuring to size.

And on the other side of the room not pictured I put a mirror inside a motorcycle tire to maintain the automotive / motorcycle theme in the room as functional wall art. See below for one angle of it.

Aside from an unfortunate slippage which got JB Weld on the bottom of the mirror itself, it came out well.

I added LED lights under the cabinets in my kitchen. I like the look, and now I don't have to use the obnoxious ceiling lighting.

What did you use to stick the diamond plate to the walls - mastic? Construction adhesive?

I'd go with some bold colors you like for wall art. We have gray walls and colors really stand out in a good way.

Also, you may be able to find an art district with studios to stroll where you can meet the artists and find something you really like. Above all, I suggest taking the time to find what you really like as tempting as it is to rush.

I know. I keep telling myself there is no rush. I'll know what I want when I see it.
