Very angular, but it seems to be following the design language of the M2 so I get it. That said, I dig it. No matter how you slice it, M5 is legendary and this will be no exception. Looking forward to more leaks.

In the meantime, there are limited other offerings that I’ll gladly opt for over these unsightly cars.
What would you choose instead of M5 touring?

BMW fucked up when they decided to cost cut and make this bodystyle both a standalone EV (i5) and hybrid. The dimensions as a result are a mess.

Looks like it was probably designed by the same Mexican designer Jose Casas who did the G87.The design of the rear reflectors look very similar to the ones on the M2.These ones also have an awkward angle like the G87.Doesn’t look good IMO.The guy definitely has some strange design ideas.

These are honestly my favorite comments on all of these "Eww new car ugly" bandwagon threads. When, in BMW's 100+ year history, has the release of a new model immediately and significantly increased the value of the model that directly preceded it? I'll save you the research time - it's never happened. It will never happen. Maybe in 30 years when the F90 is considered a classic car it will rise in value, and be more valuable than the G90... But it won't happen anytime soon.

I’d typically agree with something like this , the reason why the value have never went up is because the newer model has always been better in every way.

I truly can’t say the same moving forward to now.
We lost DCT in the G80 and you can make an argument for a lot of owners that they would prefer the F8X overall.
Have you not seen the F80 values lately lol?
f82 did go down considerably but not the sedan.

And now you have this new 5 , the car is completely atrocious.
We are not even talking about some grille design which was quickly fixed with a few aftermarket companies.
The entire car looks off , just hideous.
The rear end surprisingly is the *best* part about this car LOL and I cannot wait for the comments on the full reveal.
And I would be surprised if the current M5 values don’t hold up.

This was my response to that thread:

LOL.... It started the G8x which is okay, but not great. (IMO) Then the M2 went further down the rabbit hole. This M5 looks like absolute shit. (Thus far) You're either being a fan boy or like the terrible design BMW has been putting out. Each to their own. This do not look like a 150k car. The fact these are "meme quotes" means enough people feel the same way and BWW is becoming a joke. I will give my full assessment at launch but it does not look good. So yes, I will follow the movement and buy a Porsche. Yes, I will hang on to my low mile F90, and I will appreciate the last nicely designed M5 BMW put out.
————————————————————————

It sounds like I’m entitled to your opinion. You don’t have to take things so literally. BMW is not fail proof, they’ve gained some negative attention which is clear in these comments. Maybe it’s positive marketing? Maybe it’s not. I’m not a bandwagoner, I’ve drivin BMW and only BMW. Sounds like to me like you may be the fan boy I described. Each to their own.

Cheers!

We are on a waitlist for M5 wagon but to answer your question, RS6 avant, refreshed Cayenne, soon-to-be refreshed Panamera, Mercedes GT 4 door coupe are all in the running for our X5M replacement come end of next year. I want to love the new wagon - I am and have always been in love with wagons - but I, like many, don’t love the direction BMW has been moving with the recent new models and LCIs. I’ll continue to hold out hope until we see the full car at release, but also glad there are a number of great alternatives.

This was the the last ///M car that bmw needed to ruin aesthetically. Imho, any car that you have to “ warm up to “ or “ get used to “ is just an ugly car that you are making excuses and settling for. Just my 2c.

It's like different people designed different parts and none of them talked to each other.

I think the new 5 looks good, so this leak looks promising (for me at least). If they can connect and make the diffuser one piece, I'm all for this! Can't wait to see it once officially revealed! 😎

My approval of BMW design language correlates almost 1:1 with how my feelings toward china have evolved over the years.

All I see is VW mid-2010s. If I didn't know better I'd believe somebody if they photoshopped a Jetta sticker on this thing.

It's very unfortunate for the BMW brand that the latest designs have been disliked by many BMW enthusiasts. I'd think that the people at the helm of the company would do something about this, unless either they are oblivious to the criticism or they want to create controversy for marketing purposes. I wonder what's the reason for going to that direction they are headed lately.

I’m going to reserve comment/opinion until I see it in its entirety and in person. G87 never did it for me online, but after seeing and driving one, it looks quite good. That said I do drive a G82, so maybe my preferences are in the minority?
