I'm tempted to say, "You don't know Jack," but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Back to Macallan 12 and a splash tonight.

I liked Gentleman Jack. Might have to try some of the others.

You really have to set it up and wait 18 months to see if it's any good?????? I have a dark-fruit plum tree in the back that goes ape-shit for about 10 days. The chickens and I use that time as a colon-cleanse, but I kept thinking I could make wine/brandy.

I was thinking on a martini or a rum and coke tonight but, I have a hockey game at 10:30...need to be able to stand on my skates.

Just an after work sipper tonight, no spirits per say, just a cheap Malbec...served in the proper wine glass though. Hate those that use the Chardonnay glass for reds.

I don't know if it's just me but I find that many malbecs in the lower price range are acceptable.

Not the case with other reds. Usually have to spend more to get a decent bottle.

I'll buy in to what you're saying. Actually though - I prefer the cheap Shiraz too (Yellowtail is my favorite at 16/17 a bottle, and I keep a few bottles in the house at all times). I'm hard pressed to spend more than 40 on a bottle.

My wife joined one of those wine things...so we get a case delivered every couple months now (Granted...it came with my Thompson Cigar order, so I don't knock it) and lately, I just drink whatever she opens. I don't know who the company is...but their whites suck ass (just saying). I think this is where that Malbec came from...cause it's not on my list to buy.

You're paying 16/17 a bottle for Yellowtail? It's about $6 bottle here for the normal bottle and maybe $12 for the 1.5 liter bottle.

PA taxes the crap out of alcohol here (and we can't buy beer at the 7/11 or grocery store). I've probably picked it up on sale for 12.99 on low occasion. Typically though, it's a tad more.

Ouch, I guess so. Tax on hard liquor here is a tad over 10% by the time you add in the local taxes. That pushes a $79.99 bottle of Aberlour closer to $90. Not sure if that applies to wine and beer.

In looking...ours is 18% liquor control board tax and 7% county tax. Of course, you think that would be it...but in PA, we still pay tax for the Johnstown flood of 1936 (a non removed temporary tax) which on alcohol is another 10%. We still pay for the flood in our gas tax too...

And my wife wonders why I try to hit the duty free when we travel...
