i don't get why she's so proud of this
in america are you still expected to stop for a bus, that pulls over on the rightmost lane, and basically create a non-existing crosswalk because the bus doesn't stop somewhere convenient enough for the passengers to cross?

and more importantly - i feel like this would be less of a problem if people were taught to cross behind the bus, not in front of it where you are blocked from all view until it's a few steps too late for a moving vehicle to notice you.

The driver was proud of this because she had been complaining to the police that drivers were failing to stop when she put out the STOP sign. Yes, you are still expected to stop when a bus has the "STOP" sign out, because children do, sometimes, cross the street there, although I don't think they would cross there, being a major thoroughfare and all. Crossing in back of a bus would probably be more dangerous, because the driver can't see back there. Also, drivers coming in their cars, would see the light flashing from further away, so they would not have an excuse of expecting no children in the area.

You have no idea how much joy this gives me because I’m from west Pasco where US19 is. People on that road are complete morons when it comes to driving and it pisses me off to no end. My friend was killed on his motorcycle his senior year of HS on US19 because of a stupid driver not yielding the right of way. Hell, I was down there this past weekend and a minivan behind me went through the turn lane to pass me as I was stopping for a red light.
