Competition package Release?
I’m on the verge of placing an order for the G90, but I’m a bit unsure if there will be a Competition package coming? If I remember correctly with the F90, the competition model was released just a few months after the initial release and the second hand value seems a lot better for the Comp
Anyone got that kind of info? |

No comp pack. I doubt one will be coming as it is too expensive to add power via a larger battery which would take more space. And they are NOT going to increase the output of the V8 due to EU7 enviromental laws on emissions. They are having to walk a fine line on gasoline burn and keep it pretty much as clean as possible. That limits the max HP. To get more they would need dirtier emissions.
If I am wrong then fair enough. But several early launch vids have said no comp pack is coming. |

But is the emissions really a lot higher with a different tuned ECU as with the old Base / Comp model? I feel like the bigger difference on the F90 was the chassi and engine mounting. |

YES I think we will have wait and see, my vote is yes in 18-24 months we will get a comp never mind the projected LCI with a new interior for the next gen ID. I get EU emissions fully. However the motor is detuned and makes less power than what's in the X5m/X6m which is on sale and it's already compliant. I will also note EU emissions have evolved since this was penned out. Battery tech and EV motors always change for the better so these are swappable parts. Bmw could use a new battery module from the upcoming EVs which are 30% more power dense and I believe lighter. They also indicated the charging speed will change. I think there will be a Comp and a CS down the road as it wouldn't make sense for bmw not to. They would leave money on the table. The powertrain can be tuned (different programing/ ev power dumpping/ power curve) as well, and so can the handling dynamics and people will pay. The US is targeted to be the largest buyer and EU emissions don't apply here. |

Also looking.. the f90 was show in August 2017 with the comp being shown a year later in August 2018...so it was a 2018 vs a 2019 model year.
For the F10 it was a almost a 3yr gap between base and comp |

Depends, if the G90 doesn’t sell, do you think they will make a comp or cs version? Do you think the XM is getting any updates? The G90 is very similar to the XM, minus 500lb.

There will not be an G90/G99 ///M5 Comp…. It’s now just ///M5 per the launch details. BMWBLOG did a Q&A with one of the PM’s…

They could add 10hp, do suspension tweaks, add steering feel, new rims, black trim and charge 11k for it and people would pay for it. Net goal of any company is sales, the comp package has always increased sales and sales price. |

Haha, better always comes later in the production cycle it's part of life. Often times the best versions of any car are the last two years of its production cycle. |

Who knows? Everyone expected an M2 Comp and thus far, it looks like just a CS is coming.

I believe there will be a CS without all hybrid crap eventually, but I am not sure if there will be a Competition. Most likely not. BMW is narrowing the range on all cars other than the G80.

There’s definitely ways to add more power on the electric motor side of the equation (regardless of battery capacity)….but who knows?

There is already some reports/hinting at a "label red" model, or a full EV or I remember some article mentioning a 1000hp version of M5, not sure if that was EV or what it was.
But the XM has the label red with 750HP with claimed 0-60 3.8 seconds. and that car is 6100 lbs. The label red doesn't really add weight. which is 0.3-0.5 quicker than the standard XM. So it's not a larger battery. And I think it has less EV range than the standard XM. Hopeful this similar motor/tuning could make its way to the M5. Im almost positive they will not have a "comp" model, but something similar to the label red, which is essentially a rebranding of the "comp"? Hopefully the same could hold true for eh M5. If we could get a table red M5 with say 775-780 claimed HP, that would better the 0-60 time by @.5 second which would then make it a big contender if the current 0-60 is 3.3-3.4. Maybe we could see an M5 with 0-60 in the 2.8-2.9 range? The M5 is 6-700lbs lighter than the XM, so im hopeful there could be a model that drops 100-200lbs, and adds 50-75 hp, should be a contender if that happens. We'll see.... But I highly doubt they would mention this before the first orders are in production and delivered. It would just cannibalize the early sales. Very slimy to use this strategy, but it makes sense from a business perspective. But I can almost guarantee BMW will not allow MB or Audi to best their M5 top model, whatever that is. Comp or Label Red, or something else. |

I attended a VIP launch in Australia last night and they confirmed no competition package is coming. They found that when they released competition models in the past, everyone wanted those and the standard model sales were almost non existent. So with the new M2, and now the M5, they have spec'd them to a high level already with no Comptition to follow.

I agree and this is a repeat of the xm all over again. They will come out with a comp. But first. They need to milk everyone on this regular version first while shouting from the mountain tops this is it! Bs. They know this car is under powered scad they also know how easily they can add 100 hp just like xm label red or wtfever they call it now. They are so all over the map it can see it. They are honestly stuck with one foot in the door and one out of this hybrid crap. They know that we really don’t want this stuff so they are trying their best to cover up the nasty tasting veggies with desert dessert so it don’t taste so bad. Just like mom used to do to get you to eat you veggies as a lil kid. Lol. I see right though it. I’m telling you. They will pull an xm / label thing all over again. They have the dam power train ready to go. Lord knows they have tons of them available since hardly anyone buys the Xm’s lol

I'm gonna remove one variable: their M5 customers don't want a stiffer ride, hence why the suspension is even softer than in the XM. |
