Omega

Hey watch fiends! I started the main threads for Rolex and Tag Heuer and I know there is a Panerai master thread, so after purchasing my first Omega, I thought I would start a thread for the brand!

Share your Omega watches, ask questions and start discussion!!

Here is my first Omega:
Seamaster 300 "Spectre" Limited Edition. (limited to 7,007 pieces worldwide, only about 1000 came to the US)
It is my favorite Seamaster by far with both the NATO strap and stainless steel band. I'm used to having a date on my watch (my daily driver is still my Rolex GMT Master II), but I'll get used to it! I love the subtle elegance of the watch, and the build quality and movement are wonderful.

Also for anyone in the West LA/Beverly Hills area, the service at the Omega Boutique at the Beverly Center was first class! They didn't discount the watch, but I did receive a free bottle of Bollinger Champagne, a leather carrying case for the watch, a beautiful leather notebook portfolio/small laptop/ipad carrying case, a coffeetable book describing the history of Omega and more!

Here are a few photos! Share yours!

Here's my seamaster. My grandfather collected all sorts of watches- Rolex, omega, tag, etc.. Before he passed away, all the men in the family received a watch. On the back it has his initials. I haven't shelled out cash to buy my own timepiece since this one has sentimental value. Not sure if there's any watch that can.

The 9300 Co-Axial movement in the POC is quality...the older Seamaster I am not in love with it.

Omega was definitely in some financial trouble in the 80s/90s and the stigma followed into the 2000s. But lately they have come back like crazy, especially with the new in-house movements. Fit and finish of my Seamaster 300 master co-axial is as good as my Rolex. The movement is superb and the time reserve is longer than the Rolex. It can also withstand more magnetic force (gauss) than the Rolex Milgauss. Love the liquid ceramic bezel as well.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Rolex GMT II. Rolex's reputation is obviously top of the top for generally 'affordable' expensive timepieces and I think anyone who can afford a watch of that caliber should own one at some point, I'm just glad Omega is back to rival it (and I'm also glad to be fortunate enough to own a watch from both brands)

In my young days I was waring Tag Heuer, but now I have both the original James Bond Seamaster watch, and the Planet Ocean. Omega signals class and Omega was the first watch to be on the moon.

Wanted to share my recent experience: Wanted to love Omega and actually had several different models picked out as my only candidates.

Went to Omega as well as an AD and tried on all different Omegas.

I have a 6.75" wrist, so a tad on the smaller side in general.

The PO was too large for me, even in 42mm size. It's lug-to-lug length was too long and it's simply a mountain of metal in terms of height.

The new seamaster 300m is ruined by it's lume to me. It's made to look vintage, I get, but the lume itself is unattractive in person. It actually photographs better.

The speedmaster pro is the best fitting Omega for me - it's curved lugs hug the wrist best, and it's sizing is perfect. However, I want a large second hand, so this is on hold for now.

Overall I walked away dis-satisfied. There wasn't an Omega that fit me and filled the bill at the same time. My favorite to look at in pictures is a blue PO 42mm on a blue rubber strap - but it just doesn't sit right on the wrist for me.

Definitely different strokes when it comes to watches. Omega may not be the brand for you!

If you have a smaller wrist, have you looked at some of the stainless steel Rolexes? Or some of the smaller Cartier watches?

I think Omega is a better bang for buck depending on which watch you are going for (about equal between the Seamaster/Submariner and the GMT models for stainless steel, but if you liked the Speedmaster, it's a steel up against the much higher prices Daytona)

Also, some photos of the lume. I might have to bring the watch in tho, I've heard mixed responses on the watchuseek forums regarding the fact that I have a different color lume minute hand. I think it's supposed to be uniform all around:

Here is my Seamaster - the "original" Omega Bond watch. Unfortunately, I don't have a good wristshot, but I will make up for it with a shot of the movement. The watch is fresh back from servicing when this photo was taken and it had been worn pretty much every single day non-stop for about 11 years at the point this photo was taken (again, after service in Switzerland - I sent it home, not to the USA service center).

Love that. The delta wing counterweights are awesome. And I love the "minimalist" color scheme. Looks great. Thanks for sharing.
