Seems there was an issue with the uploading of photos.
But on your initial point I agree. The hate also comes from us, BMW fanboys. However we do tend to change our minds as the models grow on us so..

My family have been longtime loyal customers of BMW for decades. I learned to drive stick on an E36 M3. My brother has owned every M3/M4 since the E36. I had an E60 545i SMG, and an F90 M5 (which I argue is the best daily-driver car I've ever owned).
In the last 12 months I have bought 3 cars. Each time I did shop BMW, but I ended up with Audi every time because BMW doesn't make any cool cars anymore. The cars are just plain ugly now. BMW design has jumped the shark. I grabbed a 2023 R8 and a 2023 S8 for myself last September, and I just got a 2024 A8 for my parents a month ago. They traded in a 2019 540i for that. 7 series was an instant hard NO for them and me. Mercedes S class was in contention but the price is a lot more than the A8/S8 when you compare apples to apples. Better value with Audi. |

It's a nice car, but I wanted the S580 instead. But it would have taken me months to order an S580 the way I wanted and the Audi was sitting on the dealer lot with the exact spec I wanted, plus they had big discounts on the Audi. Was a no brainer.

I don’t think you will find many people who think the G99 M5 Touring looks “cooler” than an RS6 (said as a person selling my RS6 for an M5 Touring). |

Meh, the RS6/RS7 look alright (especially if you are looking for a wagon)….but they made these cars slower. That takes away alot of the “coolness” in my book. Part of why the RS6 wagon is cool is because no other maker was really making anything to compete with it here since there is no M5 Touring and the E63 wagons are really rare.
I don’t really look at their lower end models so can’t really comment on those. For a time, they seemed to be giving BMW and Benz a run for their money. Now they all just look boring to me and they’ve fallen more towards the VW side than the BMW/Mercedes side. I just think they got boring and then when they started to make the cars slower on their high end models….meh.

The new designs are awful. The bigger issue is the cars are completely numb to drive. I’m really disappointed with the hybrid approach. In the future I’ll be shopping elsewhere. Audi, Porsche - even Mercedes which is where I decided on recently. I don’t know if Audi will kill all their coupes as has been published, or if Merc will go i4 hybrid in the CLE63. But there are more beautiful and exciting cars out there than the m cars. And I am someone who has had every gen of the m3 since e46 including two g80’s. It’s a new era for M, and I think they’ll attract a new audience and lose a lot of their old buyers in the process.

By contrast, BMW has been steadily dropping off in the looks of their cars for a while. |

Reminds me of a quote by YSL, the fashion designer- “fashions fade, style is eternal” or something to that effect. The 7 is enormous and trendy. But the S class and Audis have maintained their classic look. The 7 series doesn’t offend me like the new 5 does because the 7 has always been a large and awkward vehicle. At least since the gorgeous 740i sport in the Clive Owen short film. That was peak 7 series. Everything after has been awful. |

The S580 looks WAY WAY better than a 7 series.

But it still doesn’t look as good as the last few generations….and the build quality is lousy on the new ones. Cars aren’t as good as they were years ago….

I think the current S580 looks as good as the last one. Side view looks better, even.
D5 S8 looks better than D4. And it came in long wheelbase this time. BMW is objectively getting uglier with every new car they release. |

My iX is ugly but I’ve come to terms with it. The M3 was pretty ugly too from the front but I did what I could with it. Just a shame. |

The M3 / M4 grill is actually a lot better than the 430 grill. The angular edges and horizontal slats on the M version do make an improvement.
This is just an abomination. Looks like a Pontiac Solstice. |

Look at this. Now BMW has stolen the predator grill from Lexus.
