Question for elliptical users

Wifey is thinking about getting an elliptical machine. She tried one out at a sporting goods store yesterday, but she felt the stride was too long. Like she was really having to stretch her legs past the comfort point to complete the rotation. I didn't see any way to adjust that, but the machine info did say it has an 18" stride (which seems really short).

Wifey is about 5'9". I'm 6'3". Are there ellipticals that can be adjusted for height differences or are they all "one size fits all?"

Time after time, research has shown that the best home exercise equipment is the treadmill

for storing clothes

When I "ride" one at the gym, I'm pretty sure I can place my feet in a range of places on the "pedal" to adjust my stride. I haven't ridden one since last calendar year though, and certainly have no idea what brand it was.

Found some adjustable ones, but they're way too pricey. As The Unc noted, $2500 is a lot to spend for a place to hang clothes.

I went on a cruise years ago. Wanted to keep in shape (I'm a swimmer but no lap swimming on a cruise). Ran on a treadmill on consecutive days and thought I blew out both my knees. After a day or two off, tried and elliptical and it was so great that I bought one for home. We still have it and I use it occasionally, but it's a clothes hanger in another room. Brought it out during the pandemic when the pool at our club closed.

IIRC, Precor had patented the shape of the ellipse they use as being the most natural movement. I have found it to be less “sharp” at the ends of each movement, but unfortunately they are mostly commercial sales and their residential versions don’t seem to hold up. I am also looking for an alternative and have arrived at getting the Tread. I really liked the form factor and ergos. I figure it will help me keep moving even when it’s raining, too cold or hot outside.

Our local hospital campus, which is about 2 miles away, has a new(ish) fitness center with a gazillion exercise machines of all types. You join via the YMCA, but work out at the fitness center. $60/month for a family is very doable. You can pay for a lot of months for the cost of a single elliptical machine. And if it we end up not sticking with it, at least we won't have an unwieldy $2k clothes hanger sitting around.

Kind of late to this party but the best no frills machine is Rogue Echo. Don't look for fancy video screens. The bike weighs about 140 pounds. It is built like a tank.

edit - Echelon another good choice. Peloton NWO fad dying.....
