Tires defective? center rib diameter smaller than sidewall
So I bought some new Continental ContiSportContact 5P 255/40/19
For some reason, the intermediate ribs diameter is larger than the center rib, with the side ribs somewhere in between. all 4 of them. Such that looking at the tire tread you can see a valley/crater in the middle of a volcano (exaggerated). I've never seen tires that look like that! Is that defective or normal? Here's the link to the tire via Continental's site. If it doesn't look like this you should go back to your retailer for clarification.

finally managed to navigate the internet to upload a pic
hopefully it shows the wave pattern up down up down profile of the tread, it looks slightly less exaggerated in the pic (slightly more prominent in real life, the center rib is definitely more depressed than the intermediate rib by quite some degree) also it has almost as much gap as it has rubber lol (255 40 19) it will be interesting to test the set of tyres lol |

FWIW I see it, you aren't crazy. Also those gaps look huge compared to normal.
Do all 4 tires look this way, or just one? Where did you get them from? Time to send the dealer / tire shop / company some pictures and ask. Make sure they give you a satisfactory answer. |

OK, so, when I commented I was thinking they were, by then, mounted and at the right pressure. Did you upload a pic but they're still in your garage or something?
My comment at least was based on thinking they were now finally on the car, or at least on wheels (and inflated). If that's the case, that they are still not mounted, then yeah don't worry about it, get them installed and then decide if something seems off. Maybe I misunderstood. |
