Check with your dealer if you had an order in the order bank as the first M5 Sedan allocations are out (starting to populate)

Dealership said they received only 2 allocations - and fortunately I received the 2nd one. Production is slated for week 36.

I am going to be surprise if US only got 89 slots, maybe they are slowly rolling in the allocations. Only time will show. Btw there are 350+ official BMW dealers in US. So that sounds like dealer trying to rush people or try to get some ADM

Did you get a production number?

I assume it's been assigned (?), but I don't know what it is. Was informed about the production slot a week or so ago. At the time was told it would go into 'pre-production' about a couple weeks before actual production, at which point I'd confirm the build... so should be any day now. Dealer rep said they're checking daily and will ping me as soon as it hits pre-production.

Disclaimer: this is my first time going through this process, and I've heard conflicting info about the order of events of getting slated for production, getting the production number, going into pre-production, etc.... so I'm keeping expectations low, and will just be pleasantly surprised if it all happens for an early November delivery.

All makes sense. Stand by your production number, which you'll get when they receive an allocation. And then follow the build and check in on it a MIN three times per day

No production number means nothing is confirmed. They can swear all they want that they have an allocation and take your deposit but unless you get a production number, it’s just words.

Appreciate the insight here. FWIW, the dealer has seemed to be pretty transparent about progress (giving me details they wouldn't normally need to give that indicates I'm actually #2). Also, they are a big dealer in the region, so makes sense they'd get allocation even if it's tight.

Fortunately, worst case, all I've done at this point is put the initial (refundable) deposit down of $1k several months ago... but I'll be sure to ask for production number ahead of putting a bigger deposit down.

again, I do appreciate the insights here on what to look out for!

I am surprised if they will sell more than 89 in US.

Give them a day or so. The production numbers just dropped yesterday, but your CA should be reaching out to give you the number and production week.

Which color did you go with?!

Thanks so much for the info! I'm quite excited!

IOMG. All my other cars have been white / grey... but a year or so ago I saw an M4 in IOMG and absolutely loved it. I realize some folks here have strong opinion about it, but I have not seen a single IOMG car in my area in a long time.

Congrats. 2 allocations actually sounds like a lot. Must be a very high volume M dealer

Why? What’s the point? Just do you. If you don’t like it don’t get it.

If I didn’t just buy the i5 M60 last year, then I would probably wait for the M5 Touring. Use the electric motor for local errands - groceries, doctor appointments, going to restaurants, etc. Then if I took a vacation, I have enough room for the family and luggage. I have the power where I need it, driving on freeways and not having to pay for premium fuel for around town driving which is 95% of my driving. I’m not really big on hybrids because of the complexity, which is why I drive an EV. But, I see the logic behind them.

I am always skeptical about the first cars of a new model. Too many issues to be fixed and problems to iron out. Not worth to drive it as the first one.

That’s awesome. IOMC is exclusive to M which is a plus for exclusivity ✅
