Where are the real reviews and test drives?

We got a first look and some controlled track drives quite some time ago now for the G90. The first deliveries in the US are less than a month away now. I think the one from Pebble beach goes to the owner on October 23.

Presumably press and others have had the car for for a bit or at least for enough time to do some unchained testing. When are the embargoes going to be lifted? I guess I do not normally pay close attention for the other models but I don’t recall a car being so close to actual deliveries with no real videos on them. I’m dying to see some performance figures and impressions. Is it just me or does it seem like we should have some fresh content by now? Bring it on…!

The new X3 was revealed in June, and reviews we saw just a few days ago. Timeline is about 3 months.

I hope we can expect M5 journalists' reviews from Oct-Nov.

First deliveries for the G90 will happen in November. I’m sure whatever embargoes that are in effect for professional journalist reviews will be lifted about 24hrs before the first deliveries. That’s usually how it goes.

The G90 from Pebble Beach will go to its owner Oct 23. Maybe as part of the auction you agree you won’t post about it or do craziness with the car for N days. Although I wouldn’t expect that car to end up in some pre-breakin drag races the same day.

One of my buddies who works for BMW and frequents BMW's Thermal driving school said to me that I was an idiot for getting rid of my F90CS and to skip anything G90 related.

Anecdotal and sounds made up, but I wonder if reviewers who actually drive cars will feel the same way.

That's my expectation. I feel like this will be a lost generation for the M5. The bastard child of a one-night stand between M Division and a half-baked EV concept.

I'm curious, why did you get rid of your M5CS?

I had a 992 TTS at the same time, and mistakenly concluded that I would rather drive that than the M5 CS. I got rid of the TTS because it was an incredibly boring car.

You could cut and paste these complaints when every new model is released. It’s always the same. I’d be willing to bet your buddy has zero seat time in the new car.

The embargo is to be lifted early October from what I heard. Order bank has been opened worldwide, and the first crop of press cars for local reviewers is to be released up to December (so I have heard).

Sweet! Thanks — Hope that’s the case. Early October could be as early as tomorrow. 😂 🤞

Looks like there’s been more road shows and there’s even that spot on a public charging station in Monaco that was posted. Seems it’s getting out there more too.

I hope we get the unfiltered reviews soon, too.

I am curious to see what reviewers think of it, and I also want to put my hands on one.

I am mates with a local reviewer here who got to drive the G90, he said they have made a wonderful job in disguising the weight, but its still there and its still noticeable (as can be expected).

While he couldn’t say much, Chris Harris was on Joe Rogan’s podcast and said it drives pretty amazing and you cannot feel the weight. He can’t officially say anything, but reading between the lines it seemed like he was implying that he REALLY liked it.

well he was right about the G87 not feeling it's weight, I can't tell much of any difference between it and the mk7 golf R I had before and there's like 500 pounds difference between them

I was talking to my buddy about this the other day also and we’re waiting anxiously for the reviews. It feels like they should’ve been out by now so its given us a little fear of them holding back info although I know it’s just a matter of time. I need to see some reviews asap

I don't say this lightly or to "pile on" the discussion. But, I think it is really odd to have reached October and not had real reviews yet. I'm surprised by the delay and I don't think it can be spun as a positive.

Yup…. That’s my take on it also. Can’t be great news. If it was incredible why wouldn’t they want that out asap. I hope I’m wrong cause my touring order is already in with a deposit in the order bank. This shit better be good. But no reviews is almost the same as sub-par reviews in my eyes so far. Please prove me wrong BMW

I will say John Kelly product manager NA was at the event I was at Saturday and I got to ask him several questions about the sedan and touring and he’s been driving it for the past 3500 miles and my main question was is it better than my F90 cause that’s been my favorite car by far. He said it’s different and better both at the same time. He said it’s incredible. I know he’s BIASED but this gives me a little hope cause you could tell he was genuine and isn’t a dishonest person by any means. My hope is that he’s 100% on point and isn’t exaggerating. No reviews = no good. John Kelly high praises = Good. So far we’re dead even. Let’s see…..

Magazine reviews have always been slow to roll out. I wouldn’t sweat it. It’s gonna be epic.

I personally think guys that there must be some embargo from BMW. I have ordered the touring and I hope it doesn’t disappoint, but I am sure BMW would not release such an iconic M without certainty that it’s a good car.

The hybrid tech is not new for them either so… I would not even say this is the first iteration of this… in some videos with BMW engineers, talking about the G90, they say its way better than with the XM albeit different…

Hope I am right… because I’m only speculating. “You know nothing, Jon Snow!” Hahaha

First batch of orders have to be fulfilled before any real reviews will come out not to ruin the sales completely for obvious reasons

So far I’ve heard some rumors that the G90 M5 has been severely under-rated by BMW M and that some have already achieved 0-60 times of 2.6s stock. I also heard other things that the car handles very well for its weight but the weight is undeniably there.

My i5 M60 also handles well for its weight, the rear wheel steering contributes greatly to its agility, but I can definitely feel its 5,200lbs, although the car is nicely balanced with its near as makes no difference 50/50 weight distribution. I don’t know what the weight distribution of the G90 is but the 540ix is 55/45 and is noticeable when driving it.

On the street I’m betting the G90 will be a beast, but on the track, you just can’t fight Newtons laws of physics.

And the lack of a center console shifter really bothers me on the G90. On the i5 M60 it’s acceptable because you know you are driving a BEV, the M5 is supposed to be a true sports sedan with real engagement.
