The real 0-60 mph time

Everyone is talking about the G90 0-60 mph time being supposedly slower than the F90´s chrono. But all times given are achieved with the use of the launch control. In the real life circumstances with the addition of the electric motor it is almost certain that the G90 is faster on a normal start at a redlight than any F90. To convince yourself watch this video. the difference is huge between using the launch control and a normal start. I notice exactly the same with my actual M3 xdrive…

0-60 is not a light to light battle.
In fact 0-60 and 1/4 mile are criterias to realize how quick a car is and how engine/gearbox/differential hardward and software are aligned.
So if launch control is part of this package, you need to take it into the account. Obviously without launch control, EV cars can perform better due to immediate torque while combustion engines need to build torque and this is simple physic but what we need to see is the overal performance ( 0-60, 1/4 mile, 60-130, etc) of a 717HP/5400 lb car vs a 617HP/4400 lb car.

While I can see the point of what the video is saying and it is and interesting comparison and seeing how different he results are... However...

When driving for me stop light to stop light im relatively aware if im at a light next to someone who wants to give it a go. Ive use launch control in my M5C many times from a stop light.

1) Wonder how much of this in the video comes from people not understand you can set m1, and m2 to immediately engage launch control ? and not have to go into the settings and set each individual setting each time. So it's quite simple to put the car into launch control, literally push one button, then hit it again to confirm.

2)just as many folks want to play from a rolling start. probably more. On a freeway or 20-30-40MPH pull. The M3 still walks all of them from in that regard.

3)Even if it was that difficult to engage launch control , and "not be able to use it in real world applications", quite simple to just brake boost a touch to build some boost, and can pretty easily get a much better result from what the video shows not using launch control.

4) Does the G90 M5 use hybrid turbos? Im not aware actually, but that is the big part of it for the C63 which is essentially electronic brake boosting to build boost, and lower the amount of turbo lag, same idea. But the I dont think the G90 has the electronic hybrid turbo boost. But i could be wrong, so it's not quite comparable to the C63 either unless it has similar electronic turbo spooling.

I get what the video implies but I don't think it's as "real world" as they would like to have people believe, and 0-60, and 1/4 times are absolutely important with or with out launch control.

I also get what OP is stating, but I think using launch control is indeed more real world, than the video would mention.

The nice thing is the G90 has a V8, not a 3.0L I6, so the torque should come on much lower down anyway which would negate some of that.

We will have to wait and see but I don’t think comparing how quickly a full EV gets going to 60 and the G90 (sans LC) just because it’s a hybrid are quite comparable. Not to mention the Model 3 performance is now probably one of the top 5 (or so?) fastest electric cars that exist under $150k.

Don't get me wrong. My point is not to say that you shouldn't take the launch control into account when doing acceleration tests. But I don't think launch control is designed to be used on a daily basis.
My point was rather to point out that with its electric motor providing 280 lb-ft of instant torque there should be a quicker throttle response that compensates for the slight turbo lag and low rpm at start of the conventional motor. And probably that means the G90 is faster on 0-60 and 1/4 than the F90 when launch control is not used. This is probably also the case for acceleration when, for example, you are driving on the highway and you give a burst of gas.
