I saw the Joe Achilles YouTube review last night and he plainly said he preferred the sedan to the wagon. I feel like the Touring customer is willing to lose a bit on the dynamics to get the practicality.

Not really what he plainly said if I remember correctly. I also watched it and it was a good review and sounds to me like he does but not for any other reason besides it being BIG and UK roads being small. He said it’s just big, which is obvious.

They also get the M3 touring in Europe that’s more EU sized and pure ICE and less expensive…

Probably, the majority of the buyers will get the touring instead of the XM. Similar power, less expensive, some practicality, looking better in comparison while still different than most cars and SUVs on the road.

Autotpln and autotrader both preferred the sedan for the difference in dynamic where one (touring) feels like an SUV when cornering

M3 is more expensive in some markets in Europe due to CO2 taxes.

Here in the Netherlands the M3 Touring is €156k, while the M5 Touring is only €146k.

I’ll be in the market for a wagon once they release the full fat Comp/Label version.

People complain about the handling, but coming from an XB7 it will be just fine.

There is no Comp or Label, or anything like that. Best we can hope is an M5 CS Touring, just like the M3 Touring.

seems the only reason to get the wagon is exclusivity. the rear glass doesn’t open separately, the trunk only has 1.2 more cubic feet of load space vs the sedan, and the glass roof is fixed.

telling that some folks are talking about moving from their SUVs to this. it shows demand for the wagon/touring style at least.

idgi, and will happily pass on my reservation.

These high performance wagons (M5, E 63, RS 6) are essentially exotic cars so exclusivity does play a big part in a purchase. It doesn’t hurt that I think it looks better than the sedan. If I had the funds, I’d get the Touring without thinking twice.

Not sure if G99 is better looking than XM but for 40K difference G99 is more attractive and has more power/torque (717/738 vs 664/590)

I feel like the Touring customer will probably never need the increased utility but they simply like the uniqueness (in the US market).
The part I SMH at is how often these performance “long roof” owners then choose to sacrifice even more dynamics (and add increased noise and drag) by putting a roof box on like they need even more hauling capacity.

The interior on the XM is pure luxury though, everything they removed from the M5 is standard on the XM. So if a fast, family cruiser is what you want, than an XM may fill the need (and the discounts off one makes the price delta much smaller).
