i was a HUGE fan of your F95 build and it's great to see your opinion on the G99. looks fantastic!

great write up too. now you have me considering one again despite its huge price tag. the EV portion DOES sound really appealing. we already have a model y at home so this would be a great addition considering all thats going on right now. just not sure about that fuel mileage though. :X

I went up over the bear mountain bridge yesterday for the first time since Christmas. I genuinely thought I was going to total my car on that stretch off the palisades before you get to the circle at the bridge.

I have lived up here in Rockland NY my whole life - this year the holes are on a different level. There are car totaling craters along 2 of my potential commute paths now - there are roads I just refuse to drive on now.

Don't they say something about falling empires and roads? My goodness.

Congrats on the new ride. Incredible how much the wheels improve these wagons. Looks great.

Have you considered silver exhaust tips - something like Joe Achilles did on his?

Really appreciate the comparison. We almost made the same jump but holding onto ours for a little longer still.

Yes coming from my 2020 its a pretty massive change for me. Still learning the new system and the touch screen is a non issue which I was worried about. Eidelweiss wheels looks great on the M5 in wither 22/21 or 22/22 combo.

Thanks! MBB was just too good to pass up especially since its a 'free' color. SMB would be amazing as well. BMW makes the best blues.

Worked with a local vendor and we did a custom forged setup. Very happy with the outcome. So much so I have another setup coming

I toyed with the XB7 but the cost and depreciating rate had me take a pause. Great for a family vehicle for sure.

I missed mine.
MBB is my favorite Blue of all time! Need those iSweep pads to come sooner rather than later because the brake dust is insane on this thing.

To be fair, your pre LCI X5M did have an outdated interior, the LCI changes to the dash screens were pretty profound. Same exact screens as found in the M5. The stack around the gear shift, including the change to the shifter, is terrible. Such low quality 🗑️.

All that said, I’m looking forward to likely making the same change for the performance benefits in a few years.
My 2020 had the classic BMW interior design language. wouldn't say its outdated but def doesn't have the futuristic vibe the newer cars has. Adding some carbon bits in the M5 around the shifter helps a bit here.

It was a considered decision. Ultimately, the no nonsense mild hybrid S68 powertrain won me over though the sensibility of EV mode made it a close call especially with LA gas prices of late.

Enjoy! Great ride. Looks best in all black sedan form imho especially with the full M Performance kit.
Really can't go wrong with either car. I still miss my X5M honestly and it was the best BMW i've ever own. Its the complete package for sure.

100% Being able to use electric mode for those super short drives is a game changer for me. It always hated to shut the car down when it wasn't even at operating temps yet. Just not good for the car in the long haul. Also great if you are crawling in traffic or in the situations where i'm waiting for my wife to finish shopping i'm able to sit in the car, AC running, music playing by just using the EV power and not having the ICE engine idling.

Thanks! Those were just quick iphone pics. I didn't intend this post to make it as a front page feature. I'll take better pics once the car is 'done'

This is the one big downside about the car for me so far. I was a bit shocked only getting 250 mile range on a full tank of gas. I would expect things to get better after break in but it still won't be anywhere close to the X5M which in reality not great either.

I think i spoke too soon and think i have a minor noise coming from the front A pillar area. subtle for now but i'm a pro at tracing these types of noises after my X5M lol

I know people that don't own one give it crap but in reality its a great feature for what people use these cars for. The range is enough to actually be able to do errands in ev only mode. Acceleration is adequate for normal day to day driving duties.

I know what you mean. Some of the roads up here can be pretty bad especially 9W. massive craters all over.

Agreed. I have no idea what BMW was thinking fitting 20" 40 series tires on the front of this car. Wheels made a huge impact as well as adding a front lip. it completes the front end to me. I would have been more than happy to keep my X5M for another year if it werent for the pesky misfire that nobody is able to figure out. I didn't want to roll the dice anymore.

Its night and day difference in this area and i'm very happy with how the M5 handles. Its the perfect daily for me. Firm but not harsh. I do wish the car was .75-1" lower for aesthetics but the stock suspension rides so good i don't want to mess with it and start introducing clunks or bottoming out usually with aftermarket stuff. If someone came out with a good coil-over system with axle lift I would seriously consider that option.
I appreciate the comparison. When you say it handles better, are referring to performance handling or that it is smoother over bumps? I would imagine lowering the ride height could affect ride quality. Thanks.

^^ Both.

I can take corners much more confidently in the M5 with stock suspension than my MSS dropped X5M which tends to lean and understeer.

I'm also running PS4S with my 21/22 combo just for full transparency, Not sure how they differ from the PS5S that the car comes with but ride quality in general is night and day compared to my X5M. I was never happy with the the pre LCI X5M suspension. MSS fixed the aesthetics dept but that's about it. Stock for stock the X5M was way rougher. Some say that the LCI fixed it suspension so the difference might not be as dramatic as the pre lci X5M compared to the M5.

Note that there’s likely a lot of subwoofer action during upshifts, which exaggerates the “thump”. In the F97 and G8x I find it rather obnoxious tbh

I thought I've seen that intersection and X5M before. I would see your X5M on my morning commute. Love the X5M and look forward to seeing that sweet touring on the road sometime.
