I should buy a hotel, then write an article on how individual house ownership should go. Then, I'll buy a restaurant and write an article on how kitchens in houses are for losers.

Not a chance this will ever happen, from a privacy and practicality perspective. Too many variables involved in driving. And the only way to keep monitor and keep track of those variables is to have a centralized system (presumably maintained by Google) that would track the location and system level of each and every car.

This jerkoff is just trying to sell Google products. Let them try to fuck with my freedom through driving and we shall all watch it crash and burn faster than Google Wave. |

private vehicle is inefficient for petty peasant like us, but it is necessity for those idiot clown supreme-leader-billionaires to have private jet and private yacht?

I love having a steering wheel and pedals. When me and a friend carpool I always volunteer to drive because i hate the feeling of having no pedals and steering wheel.

These guys keep trying to make the world think they invented this stuff, Larry Page only invented one thing which was page ranking base on a search result, ie a way to market crap to you on an on going basis.
Everything else they claim to have invented was done by others, as it was said self driving cars were developed by the military and tax payers money. Also Engineering schools have had this self driving robots competition dating back to the 1980' the technology have be refined over the last 25 yrs and Google is trying to claim they did all the work they were the first to make the world a better place. I think they finally realize that self driving cars will not work unless every car on the road is self driving, why, because we have too many idiot drivers on the road and they would cause self driving cars to crash or cause and accident. If that happens who do you sue, can not sue the driver of the car, they were not in control, you will sue google and since they have deep pocket they lawsuit will be big. You can also imagine in a self driving car by google you will be subject to there music they want you to hear or the videos they want you to see while the car is driving you around. It about creating a captive audience. |

I'm sorry, as someone who has been in the LA area for most of my life, and the worst years were when I was 16+ and didn't have access to a car, I can't picture myself without a car at all... Even if it's a 5 minute wait, I can't stand the feeling of having to page a driverless car, calling a taxi, or calling a friend and worst case, having them come way late... I don't even like valet parking for that reason (combined with people who are very likely to drive your baby like an idiot)... Also I do like the feeling of commandeering a car. Sure, it'd be nice to relinquish it once in a while, but 3 days later the itch to hop behind the wheel would be nice. If we evolve to be in this so-called utopian society, how do you get the joy of hugging a turn? For me, having a self-driving car is like having a supermodel babe act like she's dying to sleep with you, gets you all hot and bothered but nothing happens once you're in the bed, leaving you high and dry.
