Sleep issues

Anyone have problems sleeping?
You can't sleep early, or you can't go back to sleep?

What did you do?

Sorry, I know that wasn't helpful but I couldn't help myself!

Fortunately sleep has never been an issue for me. Try starting with the obvious...

1) No caffeine after 12 noon or so...

2) Get regular exercise...

3) Don't read in bed or lay there and answer emails/use tablet/lap top. Those activities belong outside the bedroom...

4) Is there some trigger that wakes you? Is the neighborhood noisy? I personally use ear plugs because my wife snores and the master bedroom is at the front of the house so outside noise bothers me.

5) Despite my silly response, back off the alcohol before bed time. As it wears off, you body will kind of wake up, disrupting your sleep...

I think this may be it. I just don't feel like I'm getting enough REM sleep, I'm never truely rested.

If I drink, it's worse. I struggle to keep awake by mid day, and it's starting to wear on me.

Grab the Sleep Cycle app. Its analysis will tell you if its a quality/quantity issue. Also wakes you up when you are sleeping lightly so you don't feel as groggy when the alarm goes off. All the other rules of thumb have been said.

All else fails try ZzzQuil or get some Ambien.

+1 on the melatonin. I use it when traveling overseas to help with the jet lag...

Really?

Hmm, for some reason, red wine keeps me up and doesn't let me sleep, not sure why

I think keeping a consistent sleep time is the best thing to do. I know hard to do for some. And alcohol always causes me to oversleep. Maybe I drunk too much.

I'm a genetic freak, I require very little sleep and I fall to deep sleep in seconds after laying down. This also gets old at times when everyone else is asleep, and I'm up after two hours happy as a kitten.

After a long and stressful time, I have to force myself to sleep more and then I do most of the easy tricks told above. Windows open to get cold air in, heavy exercise or work during the day and then I get to six hours for a few nights in a row and its great too.

A good thread op, sleep is a great topic always.

Insomnia is usually directly linked to stress. Need to learn and practice some coping and relaxation techniques.

Forget alcohol, it’s a band-aid and never solves anyone’s problems. The only time you would need Rx medication is if you have serious insomnia and can’t fall into REM sleep.

A half tablet of tylenol/advil PM does the trick when I can't fall asleep.

Alcohol actually makes me sleep less. Also makes me hot which doesn't help me sleep.

Melatonin definitely helps me fall asleep and I'll take it if I wanna sleep like a sob on weekends, but I THINK it sometimes gives me a headache in the morning, however not always so may just be in my head.

For the ultimate sleep experience though, I'll take some melatonin and follow it up with a little pusua and bye bye.
