2014 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix
Back in action after three weeks break after a rather boring race in Sochi.
Hope Circuit of the Americas can bring more action and excitement. Unfortunately both Caterham and Marussia will be out of action this coming weekend. With WCC title wrapped up in Russia. Now its a straight fight for the WDC, with three races left and four races worth of points up for grab. I really, REALLY hope the 'double points' nonsense doesn't come into play with this year's WDC.
Honestly, the rest of this season has been marred for me by Bianchi's crash. I was watching Malaysia live when Simoncelli was killed, and I hate to say that it really caused me to lose some interest in MotoGP. I don't really care who wins WDC at this point, I'm just ready to put this season behind me. Forza Jules. |

I mean, even the FIA contracts allow for the teams to miss up to 3 races per year. The fact that both Marussia and Caterham are missing COTA and perhaps the final race is probably to their benefit since the can now also focus on '15. I just feel bad for the American Rossi who was set to debut his F1 career at COTA. |

@Kyle B, many of us watched Senna crash at Imola. I can still remember clearly that overhead shot, when a hope was lost forever. It does not change the sport or a chance for fatal incident. Yes, FIA and Drivers Safety body made it much more safe, still, it may happen. Forza Jules !
To the Caterham and Marussia missing America races - I doubt their absence will make a difference to the front running cars. |

If we see Alonso driving around town in an R8, RS7 or something w/ 4 rings--I think we can guess where he's going... lol
And I was watching the live action of Imola when Senna was killed, as well--I couldn't believe it was happening & he was gone. Forza Jules!

Finally! A race that's at a normal time for us
Sucks that Caterham and Marussia are missing this race (especially for those attending) but we'll make the best of what we have. |

That's when Hamilton was screaming when Vettel was on his tail two years ago at COTA. On the final few laps. Also backmarkers on the curvy part of the circuit could play a difference on the DRS like how Hamilton overtook Vettel two years ago in Austin.

Stewards confirm qualifying changes for Austin
http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2014/10/3...hanges-austin/
The stewards of the United States Grand Prix have confirmed details of revisions to the qualifying procedure due to the reduced field of 18 teams owing to the absence of Marussia and Caterham. This has been necessary as the FIA Sporting Regulations are written on the assumption that a minimum of 22 cars will compete, with six being eliminated in Q1 and a further six in Q2. The stewards have ruled that four drivers will be eliminated in both Q1 and Q2, leaving ten cars to participate in Q3 as usual. In a statement the stewards said: “In view of the non-participation of two teams in the 2014 United States Grand Prix, the Stewards have been requested to clarify the format for Qualifying Practice. “Accordingly, under the authority granted to the stewards in Article 11.9 of the International Sporting Code, and having regard to the principles established in the Formula One Sporting Regulations Article 33.1, the stewards decide that the slowest four cars in Q1 will prohibited from taking any further part in the session, and the slowest four cars in Q2 will likewise be prohibited from taking any further part in the session.”

I miss the pics loaded threads. The new Lotus nose looks a lot better (and Mercedes-esque). It's so low though. Does that mean next year's regulations are going to make the noses even lower than they are now?

This should help answer some of the question about the nose regs: http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2014/09/0...e-regulations/ Charlie Whiting said: "A lot of teams have come up with a solution which is not quite what we intended. "The [nose tip] bits are less structural than we would have liked, but the fully structural part of the noses is significantly lower than it was last year. "I think on average it would be 200mm lower than it was last year. "OK it has not worked exactly as we had hoped it might, but it will be a significant improvement over last year and it will be addressed for next year." |

F1 COTA
We just moved to Austin this summer and though we're not huge F1 fans, figured what the heck?
So we checked out today's practice runs. Neither of us had ever been to an F1 event before, so that was pretty cool, although I have to admit I was a bit disappointed in the sound of the engines. It's my understanding that they've gone from V8's to V6's this year, but I was really expecting/hoping for more. The first vid is the F1's and the second is from the Ferrari Challenge--enjoy F1 fans. Well, it appears that my .mov files are too big to upload--sorry for the tease. :-( |

Although they don't nearly sound as good as last year, they still sounded pretty decent, just not very loud, my mother who hated my 135i with a muffler delete, didn't even use her ear plugs lol
