Yea i saw that as well. But thats only dragtimes.. I bet the new models do better through corners..

I wouldn't be happy if that was the case with the new f8s vs e9s. Wouldn't you think it should be a little faster in a line?

Auto '14 versus manual '15. The autos have always been marginally faster, look at past '14 records and average strip times if you need to.

So auto to auto it std/std they should be about the same? I was expecting more from the mustang in 15.

It was faster from a roll as well, and from how short their races were, what, maybe 1 gear change? I imagine it was probably a 3rd gear run. Transmission doesn't matter in that case. Faster is faster. Then again they didn't define any of this so it's a stupid video.

The autos have always done better - roll or dig. If you need any proof, look up drag slips or hell, find a YouTube video with two stock S197s.

Keep in mind the 2015's are heavier than the previous generation due to the IRS. I would bet the 2015 is faster around a road course though and much more enjoyable to drive.

The 2015 GT w/Performace Pack is faster around a road course than even the old Boss 302 according to Ford.

On Nov 17 I think there will be no question this new generation is FAR superior to the old one.

They added IRS in 2015 which should significantly improve the handling. It has the same engine though I don't understand why people expect it to be faster than the 2014 considering it is heavier.

Were there any other performance improvements that would suggest better 1/4mi times? Or do people just assume newer models always have to be faster?

0.59s behind an M4 on the 1.55 mile Streets of Willow Circuit (on arguably worse P Zero compounds versus the M4's PSS no less). Not too bad.

All cars driven by Randy Pobst, and I bet they were lined up on back to back days and just edited and uploaded at different dates, but that's impossible to say. So with whether as an uncontrolled variable, here's how these cars stack up:

01:22:81 - Camaro 1LE
01:23:73 - M4
01:24:05 - RCF
01:24:32 - Mustang GT PP

Interesting to note all of the used tires. The M4 has Pilot Super Sports. The RCF has custom PS2s. The 1LE has Eagle F1 Supercar G:2s. The GT has P Zeros.

Yes, the '15 Mustang is faster than the previous gen Mustang and the Boss 302 around a road course.

In a straight line, which seems to be everyones main grip, the '15 is a tad slower but of course it is. Its heavier and has just a few more HP than the older Mustang. I'm disappointed by that as well but now the car handles and I can not wait to see what the GT350 will do.

Exactly. And the great news for people that like to modify cars is that there are huge gains with the revised Coyote. They bottle-necked the hell out of it with the piping. A simple catback is netting a minimum of 20-30 hp/lb-ft on average based on current vendor offers. That is something that would never happen with an S197; you'd have been lucky to net 5-10 units at the crank.

I've been here forever and participate on plenty of different forums. I just don't stick to a single brand and love any kind of car.

I can tell you're not a fan of the 2015 mustang though.

It definitely has a negative reception on this forum more than any other I've been on, and I'm the kind of guy that loves to post a solid counter opinion.

Plus I'm buying one of these soon so of course I'm going to chime in on these topics lol.

15 base gt better handling than ever before but status quo in speed.
15 GT350/Mach 1 what ever variants the put fourth are the fast ones and command an additional $15-20K.

Seems like a legit business plan hope they make it happen. I think a mustang GT should be faster in a straight line than an M3/4.

With you on the M aesthetics.

The autos are the ones setting all of the current 1/4 mile records for the '15 so far, so it's an apples-to-apples issue given the video we've got here. On average, the S550 GTs are hitting the 1/4 in the same amount of time as the S197 GTs while trapping anywhere from 1-3mph faster, so long as transmissions are kept similar. You could infer that the weight is hampering initial speed from the launch while it pulls harder as the cars continue accelerating.

But that's a straighline contest. Throw a real world corner into the mix, start introducing bolt-ons, etc. The gap is going to widen.

It's going to be hard to beat an F8X in a straight line; those things are complete monsters. Underrated outputs, thick-ass power curves, amazing transmission, much lighter than direct competition (and indirect like the Mustang), etc. I think the upcoming GT350 will give it a run for its money in a straight line but the M twins set a high bar. I'm more interested in seeing how these things work around a circuit. That's where the GT350 should tear a new one. Even a lightly modded GT should do well to keep up with an M4 if the Willow Spring comparison is worth anything. Give the GT the same compounds as the M4 (PSSs), hope that someone comes out with a competent and aggressive suspension kit, maybe an intake and exhaust... it would be really close and those mods would be penny change to do.

You were expecting the wrong flavor of "more". The 15 brutalizes the 14 in many areas.

I think that will make itself apparent when tuners/owners uncork it. Even stock though, it's a completely new and much better beast.

The GT350 is going to be stupid crazy.

IMO its kind of weird to have a car slower than the old in any category. track, drag, rolling racing etc.

lets be honest straight line speed matters a lot.
