Blu-Ray

So, as I'm sure many of you know it appears that Blu-Ray is now winning the DVD war in HD with Warner backing them exclusively.

Here is by far the funniest article I've read on the subject.

Enjoy

Good thing I got a PS3 and predicted this one early

Yup... made the front page of the LA Times business section today. I quickly called my buddy cuz he bought an HD DVD player last night, along with a ton of movies... Perhaps in a month or two, he might be able to get it at a discounted price.

Ironically, HD DVD players have outsold standalone Blu-ray players. At Ceatec last October, Blu-ray execs said that their group would become more aggressive in late 2007 in promoting the format and try to gain an advantage by the first quarter of 2008.
It would seem that the people buying BluRay players are then buying more movies? The BluRay format has some clear technical advantages over HD-DVD, so I can see where studios will prefer it. I have both player types, so I don't give a shit, but I do like my Sammy BluRay player better than my HD-DVD from Tosh.

Hmmm...this could be a reason why retail stores are offering free movies and HD dvd players with purchases of tv's. Only Sony is offering Blu-Ray Dvd players with purchases of their HDTV's. It's a pretty interesting battle.

What's wrong with BluRay? It's a technically superior format.

BluRay is all fine and dandy, but Sony's a b*tch imo. I understand how much better it is than HD-DVD.

I'm not a huge fan of SONY either. In my experience, their products seem to self destruct a few months after the warranty expires (i.e. DVD players that suddenly stop working for no good reason).

I recently bought a Samsung Blu-ray disc player. I am VERY impressed with the overall quality. I really hope this format wins.

Yep, not a sony fan myself. Generally agree that Sony isn't too hot in the consumer products group, and the Sony BluRay players are crap.

I picked up a Sammy BD-P1200. Love the player! I also have a Tosh HD-DVD player, the HD-A35. Not too impressed with it, and it's Tosh's 4th gen player!

Yeah, this was a little comic that was made when sony announced their PS3's specs. Sony's arrogant and that's why it's losing to the 360 and Wii at the moment.

as long as Sony allows for other providers to company's to MAKE blu ray players, I am happy about it. Pioneer is my boys, and I cannot wait for them to make an affordable unit (Elite is re-donk-ulously expensive for what you get).

I guess this is kind of like VHS vs Beta?.... the Beta faded into nothing and VHS was the obvious format. Good thing I went with Blu-ray.

Not really...It's kinda the opposite. Betamax was the better format, and so is Blu-Ray...this time the studios are getting it right.

Sony's beating both the 360 and the Wii badly. Most people dont' know it since they only look at current generation consoles. But sales of the PS2 are still through the roof. The PS3 is meant to sell down the road.

PS2 doesn't count. I'm talking current gen. The PS3 is suffering big time. Go to a store and see the abundance of stacked PS3s not being sold. It was like that about a week after its release. Still can't find a Wii though. The 360 is selling solidly as well too.

same this you did with all your VHS... buy it again in the next format!

Funny Tidbit of info to... Why did Betamax, the superior format, lose to VHS?

Answer: Porn sales
