Need a new cell phone. Any ideas? iPhone? Blackjack?
My current phone is acting up and I will probably need a new phone soon. I'd get the same brand, probably would have gotten a free phone, but they have now changed the recharging plug, so now I need to get a new car charger. I see this as a good excuse to get a new gadget phone. I don't use the internet on the phone often but it's nice to have it to check my email in a pinch. I do text occasionally. Seems like voice clarity is still a problem in the US, when I was in Europe using the same phone sound quality was definitely better. Also strange is that sometimes I might not get a text, or when I send a text, it might not go through??
I am looking for a durable phone with good sound quality, bluetooth, small, and a good battery life. What does the new Bluetooth 2.0 do that the previous version couldn't do? Should I be looking for a phone with Bluetooth 2.0? I like the iPhone with the touch screen but hear it's been having quality problems . . . not durable (it cracks easily) and some the functions aren't working as it's supposed to, and besides the current phone is not even using 3G for wireless data. When will the new 3G iPhone come out? I hear the Blackjack by Samsung is a good alternative. Any other ideas or recommendations? |

I've been using an iphone for dev purposes. I just didn't like the Iphone for some reason. After using it for almost six months, this is the phone I will get. With the latest updates, you'll get location gps functionality, webclips, a very good web browser (compared to other phones), etc.
I don't like apple products, but the iphone is an exception. Gary |

I second the BlackBerry suggestion.
Got mine over xmas... best phone I've ever had. I can make calls, easily text, read and send emails, use google maps, have navigation, and it's my planner; all in one. I got the 8830 World Edition, so no camera (which I never use anyways), but I can use the phone internationally. Haven't tried the iPhone, but played around with the HTC Touch and hated it.

If you want a good cell phone, don't get the iPhone. It's 2008 how can you build/buy a phone without 3G? At least they've resolved the no GPS problem with the new firmware. If you are usually within range of a hotspot when you'd want to use the internet this isn't as much of an issue though.

tmobile coverage isn't that great but on a bb the push button email is cool. Just don't know what happens if you click the wrong email. Can your phone get hijacked? As someone here said before bb for work/emails, free wifi(with plan) and iphone for play.

I have an iphone also and I love this phone. I have never had a BB before so I can't compare, but I have played around with a few smart phones that my friends have and I am still very happy with my purchase. BTW, one of my friends has a blackjack and that phone is a POS.
I have to go update to version 1.1.3 for my phone... I heard that it has some kind of GPS now. Now all it needs is copy and paste, and flash. So, no, its not perfect by any means, but its still the best phone that I have ever used for my needs.

BlackBerry 8800 series. I've been very impressed with mine. I'm rough on phones, so I go through one every 10-12 mos. This 8800 series (8820?) seems relatively rugged, and is VERY reliable. You really can't beat Blackberry for reliability. They aren't fancy, they just work better than anything else at what they do. If you need / want a toy, look at the iPhone. It has more of the geewiz features, plays music, cool aps, neat gui, etc. The blackberry handles email better than anything made - it's the core of their product. The web surfing isn't that bad, I've used it to keep up with e90post threads for a while now. No audio player that I'm aware, and very few games, so it's not much of a toy.

I'm in the market for a BB Pearl...after reading playing with it about a million times I'm ready to give up a flip phone for a multi-tasking device...btw if u can wait till Valentine's Day apparently that's when the next sales are (or that's at least what the salesperson told me)

BB is an excellent voice/data device especially when it comes to email. The Curve and 8800 series have GPS.
iPhone is great for MultiMedia applications, music/video/etc but it DOES NOT have GPS. It utilizes cell towers to triangulate your location which shows a general area and not exactly where you are. Another thing to consider is that with a BB 8800 you will not be able to access your phonebook on your BT car system. Phonecalls work fine but you will not be able to see the phonebook or any call logs...Not sure about the Curve... |

That's not true. I have the BB 8830 through Sprint and my phone syncs perfectly with my car, and all the contacts show up.

Stay away from HTC products. I have the Mogul (PPC-6800) from Sprint. On paper, it has all the functionality you'd expect from a Windows Mobile PocketPC phone. But Windows on a phone just doesn't work. Not integrated into the firmware enough --
- hangs up, requiring frequent rebooting - the buttons don't always work - apps continue to run in the background, having to shut them down when needing the memory - can't get to the phone screen sometimes - buttons squeak light around them at night (cheap looking) - biggest peeve.. it Y-splits the power and earphone jacks into one, so when the jack gets jacked, randomly the phone will redial when the Windows Media music is playing. Windows Mobile sucks. Palm sucks. Don't like the Blackberry, so I'm waiting to see how Apple cracks it with the iPhone. |
