Netscape is dead!

Netscape Navigator Internet browser will be terminated tommorow. After February 1, there will be no more active product support for Navigator 9, or any previous Netscape Navigator browser. This includes Netscape v1-v4.x, Netscape v6, Netscape v7 Suite, Netscape Browser v8, and Netscape Navigator/Messenger 9.

They did the same thing to MS DOS. I think for the same reason.

makes my job that much easier. I wish there was one single open source standards compliant browser and no others.

It was the very first web browser for millions of people. It was my first graphical web browser. My very first web browser was PINE. It was text based, no graphics.

mantis, Netscape has been the benchmark for web browsers for many years. It was the original serious contender for web browsing and many people considered it as light years ahead of Internet Explorer when Internet Explorer first came out.

Good riddance. I hated Netscape when that was all my school had years ago. I say we should have a toast!

Well, Netscape was the best graphical web based browsing when it first came out. Internet Explorer was a total joke and fisherprice for those who actually remember it. I started surfing the web in 1994 so I've experience both Netscape and Internet Explorer throughout the years. I would never imagine Netscape would be a goner in 2008 back in 1994. I haven't used Netscape for about 10 years, but I do believe Netscape would be #1 if Internet Explorer wasn't invented - Microsoft was never strong with online communication software - anyone here remember the Windows telecommunication modem program? WHAT A JOKE HUH?

Safari, I used it before on my Dad's Mac and I hated it. Seriously, it's the worst graphical web browser I've ever used. It seems like most websites aren't compatible with Safari.

+1. Hate safari. Firefox is good, but I don't use it for just what Boost stated. You can't save pics to your PC with it.

I'm using Netscape right now. It's awesome. You don't get all the crappy viruses and trojans that you get with IE. I also use the email browser.

My Netscape will still work though right, even if the company no longer supports it?

I thought PINE was just e-mail (I still use it, believe it or not, for one e-mail address I've kept over the years). You may be thinking of Lynx? You can configure PINE to use an HTTP program, and usually it points to Lynx.

I swore by firefox for the last 4 or so years...

Once I installed leopard I started using Safari 3, and ill never use firefox again. The older ones sucked, but the new browser is faster than firefox, with tabs and all the features I needed that firefox had. And I've yet to come across a webpage that won open or doesnt look right...

Sometimes I use Safari because of the "private browsing" feature I have a mac and I use firefox most of the time.

5 years ago I used to use Netscape. but then they change their interface and I stop using it.
