Sella 2.0 reloaded - Italian Dolomites tour...
Sella 2.0 (reloaded) - Italian Dolomites tour...
Every year for the past four or so years, a bunch of us crazy car guys meet up to drive some of Europe's BEST Alpine passes. This year was no different. What was different, was that most of the "usual suspects" could not make it this year - for one reason or another. So this year's tour had a "different" flavor to it. That's not a good or bad thing... it just means it was all the more memorable because we go to show our part of Europe to some new car guys. Some of which we met for the very first time in real life. And I am sure they will join us again on next year tour(!) where ever we decide to drive. We have1Addicts and Bimmerpost to thank for - making it possible for all us to meet and drive to our hearts content. Where else can car lovers from all over Europe meet and have fun driving these awesome Alpine roads/passes! I also want to thanks Luc aka Artemis for helping me with the route and planning the Sella event(again)! I could not have done it without your help Luc. Last year we all enjoyed the Sella Italian Dolomites area so much... we decided to drive here again this year. The roads are great and the mountains will have your jaw a gasp! There is a reason why the Sella Region is on UNESCO's world heritage list. It truly is a spectacular place to visit. This was my sixth time driving this area... and I never get tired of it. Northern Italy(Sella) was also handy because it was central to everyone's drive. We had members from Czech, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Italy and the USA. Well... enough talk... lets get onto our pictures... Sella Dolomites Myself and Swadeness decided to meet near the Black Forrest... so it was gonna be a late night of driving for me since I had to work late that night. This was two days before our BIG meeting in Sella... Not a bad hotel near Baden Baden... just off the Autobahn... but it was bloody hot that night and as some of you may know... the Germans aren't that hip to AC units. The Mummelsee Hotel on the AlpineStrasse (B500)... this is really a NICE hotel. I would recommend it! We didn't stay over night here... we only stopped for some snacks and water. The fresh bread/pretzels/wurst was unreal!!! www.mummelsee.de/berghotel/en/ Do you smell something burning? I think the grass is on fire under my car... Well... yes... don't drive hard and then park on high grass... lesson learned! Looking back it was kind of funny though. We kept driving South thru the Black Forrest (Schwarzwald) on the B500. Such a great road! tasted so good... The Swiss border... border control... Ahhh the Alps... Almost at our hotel for the night in Austria... Our hotel in Elmen, Austria. Gasthaus Elmenhof Very friendly husband and wife owned Gasthaus. Simple but nice. And located at the foothills of the Imst(Austrian) Pass. On our way to Solden Pass and down into Italy. www.elmerhof.at LEFT turn up ahead (road #72)... up the Pass to Imst, Austria. Then Sölden Pass and Timmelsjoch... during severe weather... mudslides and avalanche DANGER! My GoPro and "dead cat" mic on the roof of my silver 135i... The toll plaza(under construction) for the Sölden Pass. I think it costed 14 euros. There were actually rocks that were breaking off the top of this rock formation and smashing down onto the street! The next day a big section fell off and closed this road. Lucky us! You can see the little bits of rocks to the right of the road here... Half of our group... on the Timmelsjoch Pass. The other "half" of our group was waiting for us at the gas station in Vipetino(Sterzing - German name) We took over this gas station and the Italians LOVED us! Nowhere else will that happen! That's why we love the Italians. Kind of sketchy... but it really was 100 octane fuel! In Italy most gas stations only sell Super(95) or Diesel. So this was a nice find. Shell Tankstelle PGL (Gas) (It's no longer a Shell, I think its called "IQ" now) Jaufenstraße, 110 Sterzing, Bozen Italy Our lunch/meeting point before driving down to our Hotel in Sella... Hotel Restaurant Zum Engel Via Deutschhaus, 20 39049 Vipiteno BZ Italy http://www.zum-engel.it/en/ We all spent a few hours here having a late lunch. The staff was very friendly and I would recommend this hotel/restaurant. It is located on a busy road though. But still its a little oasis - that we enjoyed. Hotel Bella Vista Strèda de Pordoi 12 - Località Pecol 38032 CANAZEI TN (Italy) http://www.bellavistahotel.it/EN_index.htm

Nice job, Chris.
Both me and my father would like to thank everyone in the group for such an awesome (and well organized) trip. It was a pleasure to meet all of you. Great bunch of positive, friendly and enthusiastic people. I hope everyone made it home safely and hope we'll be able to go next year if there is an opportunity. Will never forget this. Again, thanks so much ladies and gentlemen. And mother nature for the weather we had. |

Here are our photos.
Thursday En route to Sölden. Friday Before the pre-meet with two 1Addicts in Sölden around 11AM, we drove up the Ötztaler Gletscherstraße which was near our Gasthof we spent the night at. It was quite spectacular in the morning, and it is also free - from 5PM to 8AM. Timmelsjoch. Meeting point in Vipiteno, Italy, where we took over the gas station and ate Schnitzels in the neighbouring hotel/restaurant. Saturday The main driving day. Sunday The final day. Saw this old machine on the Autobahn. It was fun.

Man... that is an AWESOME tour! I really think I want to drive with our group there for next year's tour. I am just worried it is too far to drive for some. Then again... a small group is easier to keep together. Especially when there is only ONE road to stay on! Dackel
