Arrow Drove the new R8

Hi guys,

so since I am a journalist I was invited to Portugal last weekend to drive the new Audi R8 V10 and V10 Plus. I gotta say, I wasn't a big fan of the previous R8. It understeered too much and the car just didn't seem to be worth $180k especially the latest facelifts...

However, the new car is fantastic. Very different machine. Much more sporty, much more modern, and much better quality in the cabin. Here is a little video of me doing a launch in the R8 V10 Plus.

There is more to come.

Take care guys!

The car is maybe better, but now it is the most boring looking supercar (after the 911 Turbo S).

I think the R8 looks fantastic and that V10 sounds fantastic!
Love the launch; it really gets up to speed quickly, doesn't it!

Looks are subjective of course. Personally I was disappointed when I first saw the pictures but in person it looks absolutely fantastic.

Yes exactly. The N/A V10 is just absolutely amazing. The exhaust sounds even better now and it does accelerate extremely fast. I can not understand anyone buying a Huracan over this. The overall build quality of the Huracan is a joke compared to the R8.

The Huracan is a mid 10s car trapping well over 130mph that weighs a bit over 3400lbs. The new R8 needs to be a big improvement over the '14 model to compete.

Build quality is apparently a different story as OP states.

The latest R8 has now a new 6 cyl. twin/turbo engine and Audi had to detune the engine because it was nearly fast as the R8 V10 .

seriously? i know nothing about this kinda stuff so this may be dumb, but why can't they add a turbo to the v10 then and make that even faster?

Yep seriously...
Probably Audi wants to keep that NA high rev V10 , and add a twin turbo to this V10 engine would add 20-25 % HP power and lots of torque , so I think this would cause traction problems even with a AWD .

Here the link to the 6cyl. twin/turbo engine for the Audi-R8 => http://www.drive.com.au/motor-shows/...0150302-13tbfm

I think the R8 is by far the best looking car out there. I'd take that over the I8 any day and I'm a BMW freak. Also the sound of that V10 is like nothing else I've heard before. Truly an amazing set up exterior wise. Interior could work a little better to match the exterior though.

You can make any car understeer or oversteer. Maybe you didn't notice any because 12 mph. Hard to say.

it was at speed.........and well duh you can make any car oversteer or understeer but to announce it as a prominent reason for not liking it means that there was prominent understeer......if you've ever driven an R8 V10 you would know such is not the case.

I have not had the fortune. I have an e46 track car and it's been work to get rid of understeer. But part of that is driver and too high of entry speeds. It doesn't want to oversteer much cuz no powah.

My friend used to have the V10 with the Stasis exhaust, the Spyder. Let me borrow it for a weekend once. Such a fun car to drive, absolutely loved it.

Odd thing was that the transmission did overheat when I was just moving it about in an out of the garage too much.
