Post I tested the New Audi R8 V10 PLUS

Hi guys,

I know you have been seeing some of my R8 videos already and I don't want to SPAM the BMW forum with Audi stuff I promise. This will be the last R8 Video.

The next couple videos should be: Boxster GTS, Jaguar F-Type, M6 GC, X6 M and Porsche GT3. So stay tuned

Initial testing shows it's not nearly as fast as the Huracan...the difference is 0.6 seconds to 60, 1.3 seconds to 100, and 0.9 seconds in the 1/4 mile. That's a huge difference.

Huracan:

Zero to 60 mph: 2.5 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 5.7 sec
Zero to 150 mph: 13.3 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 3.2 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 1.9 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 2.0 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 10.4 sec @ 135 mph
Top speed (redline ltd, mfr's claim): 202 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 144 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 1.01 g

R8 V10 Plus

Zero to 60 mph: 3.1-3.4 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 7.0-7.4 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 11.3-11.7 sec
Top speed: 199-205 mph

That indeed would be a huge difference. 0-60 in 3.1 to 3.4ish would be much off the claimed time by Audi. They claim 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. Besides that would mean it's not quicker than the previous R8 GT or the previous R8 V10 Plus. I just don't believe these numbers. Who tested it? Which magazine?

It's from initial testing "First Drive" by Car and Driver, with estimated numbers...probably from a VBox and not their full standardized battery of tests. In all fairness, their initial testing of the Huracan was off by several tenths across the board, so it may not turn out to be all that accurate. Those numbers make it faster than the previously tested 2014 R8 V10 plus, but not much:

C/D TEST RESULTS:

Zero to 60 mph: 3.2 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 7.1 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 12.3 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 3.8 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 11.4 sec @ 126 mph
Top speed (drag limited, mfr's est): 197 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 148 ft
Roadholding, 200-ft-dia skidpad: 0.96 g

I've raced two Huracans. One was a standing start half mile race and the other was a 40mph roll half mile. Based on the outcomes of the races and the significant data I have obtained from my car, there is no chance the Huracan can achieve those times unless it had a 150 to 200 shot of spray and was on R888s or drag tires.

10.4@135 is very fast so I checked Motortrend' s numbers: 10.6@132.8. That's 2 reputable US mags having the huracan trapping well over 130.

So much win with this new R8!

Car sounds amazing and the new styling is really growing on me. Loving that instrument cluster as well.....and that steering wheel !

If it wasn't for my two wonderful, young (2.5 and 6 months), this would certainly be on my wish list in a couple years.

First of all congrats to you and your wife. I am sure the kids will bring you a lot more fun than an Audi R8

But YES - the new R8 is fantastic. I think it looks good, the interior is absolutely fantastic and the steering feels incredible. They really made a huge step forward.
