Hurricane Patricia
Having friends and family who live in Puerto Vallarta, has left me on edge all night just thinking about the damage that's going to hit the state of Jalisco. My mom and grandma are visiting Guadalajara at the moment, so as you can all imagine, I'm hoping its hype over outcome when it's all said and done.
Incase you haven't heard- Hurricane Patricia is a category 5 hurricane that is the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Western Hemisphere. Much stronger than Katrina, Wilma, Sandy, and is projected to be more catastrophic than Super Typhoon Haiyan that hit the Philippines in 2013. Thoughts and prayers to everyone who will be affected by it when it hits landfall this evening.

Having lived through Katrina, I can appreciate what they are facing. Saying a prayer for your family, hopefully the storm weakens some before making landfall...

Wishing them the best these coming days, man.
It looks like the most intense winds and storm surge will hit well south of Puerto Vallarta and Guadalaraja is far inland. They'll have to deal with ~75 mph winds and heavy rain, but not the teeth of the storm. Hopefully it hits the less populated areas and everyone there can get inland. |

200mph winds when it hits. I would just get the fuck out of there.

Yes indeed - equivalent to an EF5 Tornado with a 8-10 mile wide swath containing 200mph+ winds - unreal.
On a purely selfish note, we in Houston are on edge as the combination of this system + big tropical moisture in the Gulf + a storm front from the NE will all converge for a 'perfect storm' over Houston in the next 2-3 days 6+ ins guaranteed but conceivably up t 21"+ is possible!! My wife and I are still recovering from 2 ft or water in our home after the Memorial Day floods this year which was a 100 yr flood event (area never flooded in our lifetimes) and literally we are 3 days from initiating our house lift to get out of the flood plain - killing me! Just hoping to heck that we don't get the same level of catastrophic floods we had in June. Potentially a million times worse for the folk on Mexico's coast, especially if they are followed by extensive mud-slides which is looking quite possible!! What a mess. Quote:

The storm surely hasn't disappointed...the initial videos of it hitting landfall are impressive.

The location of landfall seems to have really spared the area of a potentially DEVSTATING storm. The mountains where it first hit really took the teeth out of it.
