BMW Group U.S. Reports December and 2015 Sales
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW Group U.S. Reports December and 2015 Sales
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – January 5, 2016… Sales of BMW brand vehicles in December totaled 34,625 compared to 41,526 vehicles sold in December 2014. For the year, BMW brand is up 1.8 percent on sales of 346,023 compared to 339,738 from last year, breaking last year’s all time sales record. “The new sales record in 2015 is the third record year in a row for BMW with the numbers further emphasizing the growth of luxury trucks, which are now one-third of BMW sales in the U.S.” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “I fully expect our Sports Activity Vehicles to be the key driver of growth in the new year with both demand and availability increasing. As the maker of the Ultimate Driving Machine, the record sales of our high-performance BMW M brand in the U.S. is especially satisfying and we are looking forward to the new M4 GTS and the all-new M2 coming this year.” To see and hear more of Ludwig Willisch's business perspective, click here. What happened to the 3? LCI, production related, or a wake up call?

Look at BMW's sales history and the 3er is going the way of the Z4. The Z4 used to be a rather affordable, good driving luxury roadster. They moved it 'upmarket' and sales tanked (Then blamed it on people not wanting roadsters instead of their sales tactics). Now, they have done something similar to one of their biggest cash cows (3er). They have moved it upmarket (along with many other luxury car brands), and sales have slid quite a bit. Could it also be that the 400 variants of the 3/4 are turning it into a fashion trend that people just don't want to buy anymore? |

What BMW has done was always on the upper end of segment costs. 3 series equally optioned to its competitors was always the most costly. From 2004-current, their price increases have always kept them more costly than equivalent C and A4. I am not saying BMW are losing customers to other brands. By jacking up the price, people are more likely to hold on to cars longer, and not turnover at the rate they used to. How many people are return customers at BMW? A lot I bet. Of those return customers, I would like to see how many are holding on to their cars longer with the higher new car prices. |

A quick comparison
3/4 series 150,000 C class 86,000 Lexus IS/RC 60,000 Infiniti Q50/60/40. 55,000 Audi A4/5 50,000 ATS 30,000 These are rounded numbers so I am off by a couple of thousands, sue me

Well it looks like for the fourth consecutive year, BMW takes home the sales crown in North America. I honestly was expecting Mercedes to walk away with the CLA and the W205 C-Class in the last quarter of the year.
