C43 AMG Coupe

Did you folks see this. Saw it on topgear. Looks pretty cool. Not the same power as F80/82 but looks like a fun car

It's basically a C450 coupe aka 440i/S5 competitor. This thread should be posted in the 4 series subforum.

More like a M440i competitor for when it comes out.

Maybe in terms of price. But not in terms of market segment, performance and size.

Seems similar in performance, speed at least. Agree with other points though.

Edit: I didn't realize that the car in question was the coupe since the OP had included no link (topic now updated for clarity). Nevertheless the points remain the same. Just substitute S5 for S4 in my post.

This is nothing more than the existing Mercedes-AMG C450 Sport renamed. That car always had the Audi S4 in its sights and the new name doesn't change that fact.

Mercedes has decided that, rather than to distinguish the proper AMG models from the pseudo AMG models via different model nomenclature (two digit vs. three digit models numbers respectively), they should just use the two digit codes for anything AMG. It's a rather unexpected move, and will lead to a blurring of the lines between what's a "real" AMG vehicle and what isn't. But apparently Mercedes marketing research is telling them that'll mean more profit, not less. It's going to take some time to get used to it.

It is exactly as much an M2 competitor as an S4 is. I suspect only a tiny group of people are eager to compare or cross shop an S4 and M2.

That MSRP has to be wrong though, no way this will cost 66k base.

You are completely right about marketing and making more profits.
No more "one man one engine" philosophy that has been around for 40 years.

Because of this, I'm going to need to carry a reference guide with me in order to distinguish AMG models from "AMG sport" models when I see them on the street. It's hard enough given the subtle, if not non-existent body changes between the two lines. Now we need to memorize various model codes and numbers. I can see it now: a thread titled "raced an AMG (or was it?) and won".

For what its worth, I would consider this car if Renntech does something crazy with it. Right they just have a plug and play for the ecu put like 400/450?

From what I've read the C450 is simply being renamed the C43 (and coming as a coupe), so I wouldn't expect much of a change in price, unless Merc is trying to pull a fast one.

Is it much lighter? The C63 is a beast but 1750(ish) kgs is way too heavy.

Nope, it's (confusingly) not really an AMG like the E63, just a mid level product.
