Cold Black is coming to BMW

Cold black is a technology that prevents the suns rays from absorbing into dark colors.

Ralph Lauren has the exclusive for apparel, and will be using it in its RLX line of active wear.

BMW has the exclusive for automotive. they will be lining their leather and fabric seats with the material in 2009

sounds like some insider information to me. What's BMW's stock symbol?

Better yet, what's the symbol of this company producing this "cold black" material? j/p

Do you think your wife can score a field trip for all of use to test drive Ralph's McLaren F1?

Heard the same thing from an SA at Kuni in Oregon. Only the verts in the 3-series, according to him, though.

on a serious note, this would be fantastic! the problem is, it would be cloth like seats... so essentially you'd be trading off that luxurious feel for what? a slightly cooler interior? its probably a minimal difference also. i dont know. i dont think its going to do good at all from a realistic perspective. plus, with purchasing power of america going down, it wont have the client base that it used to, and people arent spending as wildly. (err, wont be soon anyways)

That is some interesting shit! Technology sounds like Cold Fusion... but for seats.

So this is a cloth / leather thing only? It would be nice if it can be added to the car's paint

I read about this in the BMW magazine a month or two ago so I wouldn't say it's incredibly new news. It sounded in there like it was going to be an M3 thing though.

The 3 Series (convertible) also addresses a longstanding bane of convertibles: the combination of tender thighs and searing-hot seats. The seats, armrests and shift knob feature BMW’s so-called sun-reflective technology. The leather is treated with pigments that BMW claims will reduce surface temperatures of dark-leather seats by up to 36 degrees on sunny days or 27 degrees for lighter-colored leathers.
