Quitting Smoking
Today I made the choice to quit.
It's been 3 hours with the patch and 2 packs of gum and I'm struggling hard. Anyone have any luck with quitting and how long after cravings ended? |

I have never smoked so i can not give any advice, just know you are making the right decision and stick with it. They did not put over 3,000 ingredients in a cigarette so you could quite easily. Good luck friend!

I quit smoking now since 11,5 years and I regret it not a single second. Wasnt hard as expected and highest time after using 2 boxes a day... and: No patches needed and no gums.
To be honest: The wish to smoke anytime again never disappears, even nearly 12 years later. Be strong, its worth it

although I'm not really addicted to smoking, I would call myself a social smoker but can stop when I want. Now It took me about 15 years to quit jacking off. I get tempted everyday. Sorry back to the topic, I think honestly everyone is different. It took me a few months for my cravings to be manageable. After a year it was the last thing on my mind. I have a pack of cigars i bought 3 years ago in vegas and haven't even touched them, such a pity. Keep up the goodwork, it will payoff.

Smoked for like 15 years. Tried patches, tried gum to no luck. Tried Chantix and had crazy dreams. been vaping for 2 year now. I cheat every now and then when I drink and see my buddies smoking but vaping has helped me a lot. Started out with 16mg of nicotine and down to 3 mg now. 0mg soon. Best part is I blow cloud chasers with my drip system.

I quit last February and staying active, running, sports, and etc all help to fight out the toxins in the body. The hardest test is when you drink, I would say if you want to quit stay away from bars for a while. If you see others smoking while buzz it's game over.

The most important thing by quitting is: You must be ready for this in your head and totally convinced to quit.
Dont start if you're doin' this just for fun to test how long you could withstand this. After it it would be more worse than ever...

I'm an addict and I like it. I don't smoke cigarettes anymore, but I won't deny my addiction and I had no intention of quitting nicotine. I knew I had to stop smoking so I went to vaping. Took me 3 days to quit smoking. It took a week till my last cigarette was smoked, but I say I quit in three days because that's how long it took me to realize lighting up on the way out the door was purely a reflex action and that I didn't even want the cigarette anymore. I had really transitioned 4 days prior to that without noticing. Switching to vaping, IMO, is exactly the same as quitting. You have to be committed to it just as much as you would commit to stopping completely or it won't take. I was that committed and that's why I believe it really got me off the cigarettes.
Now I have a lot more money in my pocket every month from not smoking a pack a day. I have been in the gym for the last year and half on a regular basis. I don't smell like an ash tray anymore either. I love it. All of the anti-vapers can flat out suck my ass. Fuck all of you, seriously. I hope you all die after having a few drinks and driving home from the bar. If\when I do quit nicotine, I will taper it down to 0 and continue until I can ween the oral fixation. I refuse to use Chantix. I've had three friends that tried it. All of them turned into horrible people while on it. The first one, and the only one who successfully "quit", went back to smoking not even a year later and still smokes to this day (6 years later). He said the dreams were almost unbearable. The second and third stopped as soon as the suicidal thoughts started to kick in (they both said their dreams were too fucked up and bad to describe as well). Go look up the recidivism rate on Chantix. It's fucking stupid. Last edited by davis449; 08-16-2016 at 02:43 PM.. |

Thanks for all the advice.
I am 100% mentally ready. I am smoking pack and half a day now and I find myself chain smoking (2-4) cigs after a long commute ( wont smoke in my car, although in lots of traffic I have). While I am at work and busy I can gon5-6 hours with none but then I have about 3 back to back. Smoke right when I wake up and right before bed, wake up in the middle night. It has begun to take over my life and the amount of money I spend a week is just insane on something that will end up killing me young. I started at 14 (not really just the high school thing to do) stopped started again at 22 and it's been about 8 years now solid. I know I have to, I want to some just have to do it. |

Get more active, start running, lifting, things like that.
You're going to want to as you're likely to gain weight since cigarettes naturally fight hunger cravings so you'll likely eat more. Good luck, you're definitely making the right decision. Should take about a week for the withdrawals to stop and after that you'll occasionally have a random craving here and there that will go away after a few minutes. But seriously, if you don't already, go out and buy some active gear and run. Stay sober for a couple of weeks too and throw away all of your lighters. |

Its not the money which you have no more into your bag...its the money whats stay into your bag, because you neednt it anymore for smoking.

I quit smoking cold turkey after 40 years - no patch, no gum, etc. I have now been 3 years and 5 months without a cigarette. I still have cravings.

I launched Chantix when I was at Pfizer. I have never seen such an amazing drug for smoking cessation in my life. PM me if you have questions.

I quit cold turkey almost 20 years ago. I will have the occasional cigar but have no desire to smoke cigarettes. Try the Chantix. I have a friend who quit five years ago but still goes through multiple packs of nicorette gum every day. He's still addicted to the nicotene, just getting it from another source. Still better than smoking but...

Care to address for the OP Chantix's shitty recidivism rate or are you just a mouthpiece-ing for your former employer?
